I took the SAT last December and got a 2270 with my sub scores being 700 M, 770 CR, and 800 W. This was after lots of studying and it was my first time. I am taking the SAT again in October mainly to raise my M score because I am applying to some "mathy" schools.

So my question is would it necessarily hurt me in the admissions process if my second SAT score is say lower with a higher math score, for example say I end up with a 760 M 740 CR and a 690 W, that is a cumulative 2190. I know most schools take highest sub scores and look at those only. All of this worry is because I am focusing more on the math section in studying for this test, I haven't really spent that much time on the CR and W parts, I just don't want admissions to think the 770 and 800 were flukes if I get lower scores in those sections.

TheWikiMan, from what I heard in the last few months, CollegeBoard itself is adopting the policy that you can take individual sections of the SAT and present only the highest scores to the colleges. If that is not true, I still think taking it again will not make your previous scores seem like a fluke. You are very solid in your scores and I doubt you will get a lower score on any of the sections.

I HAVE A SOLUTION!! haha. well a 2270 is amazing by itself. Now there is a thing called the SAT II’s. IF you take the Sat II Math which is a bit harder, but way less tricky and get a 800, colleges will think of it much more prestigious than a sat II math. This you do not have to be scared about CR and W because those scores are high enough. And if you get a high score on SAT II math, colleges will think that 700 math was a fluke hahaha other way around. Now If I were you this choice would be obvious and I would just take the Sat II math, which could possibly make your super score 2370. ( You can still miss 6 and get a 800, and honestly if you have taken Alg. 2 you can get a good score)

yeah I have already taken the SAT II Math IIC and got a 760, which is not up to par. I am taking that again in November to get the 800, as long as colleges superscore my SAT I should be fine right?

Yeah you dont need to take the SAT again, they will assume that you were having an off day in math and will look at the SAT II Math as reference. Damn its practically like you have a 2330 right now which is really good for any college. Dont bother with the SAT anymore its honestly a waste of time now, focus on polishing your ECs and grades, etc.
