Would W be better than C+~B-?

I am taking this 400 lvl course right now..it's for my major.

I took the 25% midterm and I wrote at 20% paper. I did horribly on the midterm.(I got around 65%) and I did ok on the paper(around 80%)

I have one more paper and a presentation to do each worth 10%..so 20% in total.

The final exam worth 35%.

Since I already screwed the midterm, I think I am going to end up something like C+~B-. B in lucky cases, and B+ if some kind of miracle happens.

Anyway, I was wondering if it is better to drop the course and get a W rather than getting something like C+ or B- in a 400 lvl major course.

I am taking four courses now and I am doing well on the other courses.

I got 98% on this other midterm I have taken 2 weeks ago.

However, here's another problem.

If I drop this course, this would be my FOURTH W.

I have 2 W's on first year, one in each term. I had to drop Calculus and Physics because I felt that Science was not for me.

Then I changed the faculty, and I have been studying psychology since the 2nd yr.

I dropped one 200 lvl psyc course last winter because I really couldn't stand the teaching style of the prof.

As a result, I have 3 W's so far, and dropping this 400 lvl course would mean I get 4 W's in total.

I am thinking of applying to MASTERS(not Ph.D) in counseling psychology.

I got 4.0 last term, and my last 2 yrs GPA is about 3.8. My CGPA is bit lower due to my 1st yr science courses.

Would it be better to drop this 400 lvl major course rather than getting a C+ or B-?

Although there is the 35% final, I am not really confident because the final is actually going to be a WRITTEN EXAM, not Multiple choice. I have never taken a written exam so far.

I have to decide about dropping this course by this midtnight. I have 6 hrs left.

Thank you

I am posting this now, because I have just received the paper mark few min ago.

well, i dropped a course in my major last spring and thus got a W in it and had to retake it this spring. I should have stayed in it last year because I can't stand it and it hasn't gotten any easier...lol. But at the same time, the W didn't have an influence on my being admitted to gradschool....and it was my second W (I got a W in a nonmajor course last fall).......If you think you can pass it and make up the C with easier classes later, then I say stik it out. If it's really getting to you, then drop it.

*If I drop this course I would be part time, because I always take 4 courses per term. In other words, I have been part-time three times so far after dropping the previous courses.

I dont' have to take tihs course, if I drop this course, I can take another psyc course to take next fall or winter.

But the 4th W kind of concerns me.

By the way, I did worse than the class avg on this exam.. the clas avg was 69.

Here is how I see it working:

1 W: You can blame it on ANYTHING you want. Sick mother, dead dog, broken ankle. Go nuts.

2 W's: Probably the same as 1 W. You can just say that one you dropped because of (insert reason) and the other you dropped a day after the drop date and couldnt get back in.

3 Drops: Trend starting to develop.

4 Drops: Definite trend. A 4.00 GPA with 4 Drops is seen as somewaht illegitimate by an admissions board, epsecially if those drops are spread around and not all in one semester.

Sorry to hijack the discussion, but I want to ask: does anyone know if it's OK to take a grad-level, non-major course pass/fail, provided I've never done anything like this before?

Please check your PM inbox.

Drbott,

Its probably alright. However, much like "W's," just don,t get a bunch of them.
