I currently own and manage a survey site that pays its members to do surveys. It's been running for about a good year now and I look to continue running it. I usually get $4000 a month from this site and keep about 51% of for myself(the rest is to pay the members). Im a rising sophomore and by the time I'm applying to college, it should be big enough where I can actually do it full time(but wont). Would this be somewhat impressive to them? It's my dream school :D I site is just like surveyspot

yes…I dont see why Wharton would not be impressed with this… however you would definitely not be a shoe-in. don’t rely on this too much and get a crappy gpa though. your class ranking is most important

I know that. but one question, what’s more important to PENN, class rank or GPA?

These kind of things are great to put on your app to Penn. However, this type of EC will not resurrect a dead candidate. In other words, if your test scores or grades suck, you still probably won’t get in.

Class rank is more important btw, Megafund.

That’s very impressive. I am running a similar operation online. I will likely be attending penn in 2012. Email me and we can discuss Wharton and online businesses. I also have a survey site. Maybe we can partner?

So, if I’m top 8% of my class but have only a 3.69, will I be dinged? My 9th grade year was a 2.8(bad I know )

False, GPA is always more important to any school, including and especially Penn, because not all schools rank, but all schools give grades. The GPA is looked at in context of how your school does it too, so they won’t reweight it anything.

“i will likely be attending penn in fall 2012” lol that was cute.

^^Just my thoughts lol

Of course that’s a great EC and would make you a stronger applicant to any school, but you can’t use running that site as an excuse for bad grades. A 2.8 Freshman year is pretty terrible and you’re going to have to work hard to become a competitive applicant again (yes, even if you cured cancer, a bad GPA could put you out of the game).

Is that the OP?

If so

let’s not stretch the truth here. Do you really expect adcoms to believe that you are both a Publisher at Google and an App developer at Apple? Obviously not, no one can be (even though being a Publisher at Google isn’t a real job). Your achievements are already great, but going off and stretching the bounds of truth like this is not right and will likely leave a bad impression of you. Maybe you should change it to say “iPhone app developer” instead of “App developer at Apple”, because I highly doubt they will believe that a kid who doesn’t even hold an undergraduate degree works at Apple.

@Grati, that’s not me…and I was never using at as an excuse to why the 9th grade gpa was bad.

@Grati: Nope, that’s the guy a few posts early who said “I will probably be at Penn Fall 2012” or something like that.

The likely will attend was sarcasm…

I have developed with apple and advertised with Google. What do you want me to say?

You will need to have more than that to be competitive.

I know that by itself wont get me admitted to Wharton. I just wanted to know if it was viewed positively by them. I just wanted to know if it was viewed as a good EC or not.

OP, it’s a pretty amazing EC.

^^thank you. Any other opinions? Does it carry the same amount of weight as winning a state award, more, less?

Consider creating a survey and asking…
