I'm an out of state California resident.
I have a 3.7 transferrable with around 61 credits currently. My chances already arent great but would withdrawing from a non-transferrable class screw up my chances? The class is called World of Insects it's an entomology class that it seems impossible to get an A or even a B in. The only grade is quizzes at the end of lecture that are partially on lecture but in reality most of it is stuff he didn't teach, so my grade in the class has been declining, I had 3 10 of 10s and this week was rough 4/10 and a 6/10. I'm really thinking of withdrawing if this trend to continues.

I was once told admission counselors don't even look at things that are not transferrable.

I’m applying to UCSD, UCSB, UCB, UCI, SLO, Ponoma, Fullerton and SFSU and maybe SDSU, it would also drop me down to 9 credits.

You were told correctly. UCs do not look at non UC-transferable classes at all. It will not hurt you at all.

Turns out UCD offers the course so it would be elective credit I’m not sure of that will affect whether it’s factored or not. I talked to an admissions rep and she just said if you have one W we’ll just cross it out and it won’t even be considered. UCSD also said they don’t look at course work, grade trends or # of units taken per semester they just consider overall transferrable GPA. The bio department doesn’t even look at what you have completed.

They also said if anyone even looked at the W at the UC they would deduce that you are close to the credit cap so you withdrew to not hit the credit cap.

I think I misspoked. So my course World of Insects at Rutger is a sophomore level class that has no pre-reqs, which I’m assuming is considered lower division. It does even count towards a minor in entomology. UCDs only entomology course that is even remotely similar is a called: Art, Science and the World of Insects (3)
Lecture—3 hours; laboratory—3 hours. Fusion of entomology and art to create an appreciation of insect biology, ecology, interactions with humans and importance in human culture. Multidisciplinary approaches in education and career paths in entomology and art.

Ours is The World of Insects (3)
The nature and importance of insects that affect our personal and professional lives through competition for food, nuisance, and the transmission of disease.

So I don’t think they transfer.

Just because UCD doesn’t offer the same exact class doesn’t mean it doesn’t transfer. It still may be factored into your units and application GPA.

Just withdraw. One withdraw won’t kill you and assuming it’s not transferable it wouldn’t even matter, right?

UCD was the only UC that had anything similar but looking at it now it’s not similar at all. Because its lower division it shouldn’t transfer. Yeah I’m considering withdrawing we’ll see how this week goes.

Again, I don’t understand your logic of it being transferrable. It may not count toward your major but it’s probably transferrable. I have taken several transferrable classes that have no similar class offered at the UC.

Why would they give you credit for course that are not similar. Community colleges have a number system set up usually if it’s transferrable or not. Some courses might or might not be the same. They have an agreement with UC campuses.

In order to determine if a class is transferrable you have to go and reference any courses offered at any UC. I went through all of the UCs, UCR and UCD are the only ones that offer entomology classes, I looked at my course(above) and the only lower division class that was similar was the course I listed above at UCD. And it’s not at all similar. Rutgers has no agreement with any UC campus do therefore it should not transfer.
