Would You Apply?

I'm preparing for when I finally get my SAT score in a week or two.

There are a handful of schools that don't require SATs for transfers, but, for the ones that do, would you even bother applying with a terrible SAT score? A lot of people say they have no weight, but why would it be required if it's not considered?

If your SAT score isn’t at least in the school’s 50th percentile range and it’s a highly selective college, chances are not good.

what year are you applying for? yea, they will carry at least a little weight which is why they look at them…but even if you do well, im not sure how scores taken three years after most applicants take them will be viewed

They do carry weight. How much - varies by the individual application. No way we can advise you without knowing:

 1. your scores
 2. the rest of your profile, strengths and weaknesses
 3. the school(s) and the programs you where you would apply

The colleges I’m applying to that require SATs: Columbia GS, Georgetown, Stanford, University of Pennsylvania, Vassar, Wellesley College, & Wesleyan University

I won’t know my scores until the 12th

My SATs will be low because I didn’t finish my essay. I just didn’t keep track of the time.

You should think about adding Smith which has a program for non traditional women and I believe they don’t require SAT scores.

Many of these schools are still not looking at writing so if you did well on CR and math you’ll still be in the running.

You have a compelling story. Congratulations on what you have accomplished in the face of a variety of obstacles.

If I were you, I would apply to every school I wanted. You have much to offer that would explain/counteract lackluster SAT scores. Go for it.

Try to keep your emotions realistically in check as, if your scores are way way below the normal range for a given school, it just may not work out. But you are the kind of applicant - imo - where the scores may carry much less weight.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

yea, definantly apply to most any school you want, not to say that you will get in, but you should have a very decent shot although i probably wouldnt have retaken the sat’s at this point…is the reason you weren’t permitted to go to college due to your religious background? if so, you have a really, really compelling hook and id certainly emphasize it at some point in your application…

best of luck
