Would you be put off by this essay topic?

I was insecure and kind of depressed until a year or two ago. I would like to write about how overcoming this problem influenced what I hope to do with the rest of my life. If I wrote about it, I would not go into much detail about the how and why of the sadness, but would focus on the solution and the lessons learned.

I'm aiming for an Ivy League college, so please let me know what you think while employing a high standard of judgment.

I don’t think that’s cliche or stupid or I would be put off by it. It’s not that controversial of a thing, it all depends on how you write it. Almost any topic is reasonable and could be great

Thanks for the answer! Anyone else?

Go for it! The essay should be about a specific personal journey – something that happened to you – how it changed you as a person and is part of who you are today (stronger, more self-aware, more resilient). Good luck!

Just make sure it is not boring, and you’re fine.
