got into UC Davis UC SD UC LA and UC Berkeley and..

Varsity Sport Captain, ASB, VP of one club and Treasurer of another, Acts in large scale productions, Captain of competitive theater troupe, Nationally "ranked" in business club in two different events

was rejected from every single one of those schools above ( Davis SD LA Berkeley)

This is a situation from my school ( yes I have the actual results of their admissions) and I wanted to see how much, if at all, you were surprised by this situation.
The latter student went on to gain admissions to JHU USC Georgetown Rice and Vanderbilt and the first student was accepted into USC Vanderbilt NYU and Cornell and..well no where else

Surprised?

I am very surprised by the second student’s admissions results.
Looking at my own stats, that student surpasses me in almost all, but I still got into all of the UCs…

I would say essays have a bigger impact on admissions in the UCs than you think they do!

Probably depends on strength of essays and recs :P

I have to assume the second guy failed to meet a UC requirement. Because there’s just no way Davis would reject someone like that; they aren’t that selective…

any others?? What about San Diego/ Los Angeles? I would have thought the second student would have gotten into SD semi - easily. I know LA is competitive… but this competitive? If the second student had gotten into SD LA Berk would you have been surprised?

Did the second guy miss his/her VAPA requirement? SD is on a point system, and I would guess s/he would easily have the points for the cutoff.

Second guy must’ve not fulfilled A-G or, like, forgotten to write the essay.
