<p>I just joined my AcDec club/class in school last week, and there's not a lot of people in there. I plan on doing it all four years, because I love to learn new things. I know colleges don't want an applicant to academic sided, I plan on applying to Rice University, but I really love doing it, I did pentathlon in middle school, and I was just wondering if colleges would consider me focusing only on academics of I did AcDec all four years?</p>
<p>It’s an excellent EC. I wouldn’t worry at all about appearing too academic. If you focus on this as your main EC for four years you’ll be well positioned for admissions. Good luck.</p>
<p>You can definitely join Academic Decathlon, and it is definitely a good choice, but make sure your application is balanced out. E.g. don’t join five academic clubs for the sake of joining them. Adcoms like to see that you do other things for fun.</p>
