Would you Consider my Schedule Rigorous?

You’re going to have to step it up if you want to get into community college, son.

This is not acceptable. I am disappointed.

(Of course it’s rigorous.)

It is fairly rigorous, however Choir and Gym will not be considered for most colleges. As for Spanish, you only took it for 2 levels which may hurt you in admissions at the more selective institutions.

I am confused about your mathematics education. What is “College algebra”? Is this Linear Algebra? If so, you cannot take this before pre-calculus; it requires knowledge learned in precalculus. In fact, it is usually taken after AP-level Calculus or even Multi-variable calculus. Next, how can you take Pre-calculus and AP Calculus AB in the same year? Finally, why even take Pre-calculus at all? I recommend taking AP Calculus BC and not taking Pre-calculus, as Honors Algebra 2/Trig is equivalent, and BC has very little additional material.

bobtheboy: College Algebra is a hybrid of Algebra II and Pre-Cal. Except usually you take it at a community college (some universities offer it) for college credit.

In that case, it makes even less sense to take Pre-Calculus. That would be like taking 3 years of a math class that really is 1.5 years, 2 years max (most people take Algebra 2 then precalculus, so 2 years, but advanced math students sometimes skip one or the other, or accelerate it into 1.5 years as some kids choose at my school.) You are ready for Calculus AB or BC, you do not need another year of Precalculus.

College Algebra so far sadly has been a review of Algebra 1 for some reason… >.<
y=1/x+1 any1?

But, college algebra is really the alternative to taking Calc for the Seniors at my HS.

(we aren’t the brightest either average ACT is ~16-21? lmao)

But yeah the hybrid of Alg 2/Pre calc makes the most sense of the college algebra syllabus.

My HS makes AP calc AB a double period. Making 1 period honors credit pre calc and one period AP calc AB for AP level credit.

And Bob,

by “not be considered” do you mean it won’t be considered rigorous or they just wont add those classes when finding GPA?

They probably will not be considered in GPA, and they probably will not add much or at all to how colleges view your schedule.

That’s unfortunate, but I guess you can’t do anything about that, so it doesn’t detract from course rigor.

Bob, do you think it would hurt me any? Considering instead of Gym/Choir i could have taken… AP World/bio/chem or an honors science elective or something?

Actually we just finished the asymptotes/missing points chapter.

Does anyone have the unfortunate acquaintance with MATH XL?

Our first chapter was like Algebra I. When did you start? We started the 15th of August and the first two chapters took FOREVER to get through.

No idea what you’re saying david sorry lol

And my College Algebra class is going to be split in two parts

a hybrid alg2/pre calc class moving VERY slowly and lot of teacher help

and the part i’m in a highly independent fast moving pre calc course.

Do you use the horrible program MathXL for your homework?

No, i used Carnegie learning for geometry last year if you’ve heard of it.

the hw from my Coll Alg class comes from here
