Since I’m hesitant to start a new discussion:
How would you evaluate safeties?
I have to worry about this for next year and I’m rather concerned as I hadn’t even heard the term safety school before junior year. Personally I’m considering UCSC as a possible safety and they’re awesome in astrophysics. I always feel like people don’t want to attend their safeties, but I’d be happy to attend UCSC. Sure they’re other awesome schools such as MIT or so, but those feel like far reaches.
Sorry if I’m hijacking the thread.
From what I’ve been told, try to look for schools where your test scores are higher than their 75th percentile scores. Also, their acceptance rate should probably be at least 40-50 percent. By exceeding their standards they will really want you, but I wouldn’t look at a school where you are obviously extremely qualified to attend, as then it’s clear that you’re just applying to it as a safety school, and they may reject you on that basis. Otherwise, you should get accepted, probably with a nice aid package.
@PulseStar , I will pm you. Yes, you are hijacking:-)
