I am in a real dilemma over which engineering to do.

I am defintly going to school to be an engineer, and i really also want to be a doctor.

The engineering that i was thinking about doing is electrical engineering, but someone told me that if i wanted to be a doctor that i should to biomedical.

Would biomedical give me an advantage on the mcat or anything like that? Or could i just do electrical engineering and take a few biology and chemistry courses?

To become an engineer: The EE degree will be more attractive to employers straight out of undergrad and can also position you to get a graduate degree in BioE/BME. It will be harder to find jobs in BioE/BME with a bachelors since there just aren't enough openings for generalists - employers tend to prefer specialization in a traditional engineering discipline. It will also be difficult for a BioE/BME to do a EE PhD while the opposite is not true.

To become a doctor: Major does not matter. GPA does. If you think BME will give you a GPA edge over EE, then go for it. But it will not help you on the MCAT or better prepare you for medical school. On the MCAT, you are supposed to answer questions according to the prompt. Bringing in outside knowledge (other than what you are expected to know from your prereqs) might work against you. You might be able to save a course or two with BME since the degree requirements overlap with the premed requirements, but this should never be a reason for choosing a major since the vast majority of classes you will take are not required for medical school.
