I am meeting with my adviser tomorrow to plan the semester that I will take off as an independent study course.

I have 3 more options left.

1st: Go to Cuzco (Peru) and spend 6 months there.

or

2nd: Go to Havana and spend 6 months

or

3rd: Spend 4months in Havana and 2 months in Cuzco

Cuzco: I would like to go to because one of best friend live there and I miss her. If I go to Cuzco, I will learn about the Inca civilization and do community service.

Havana: I would like to go there because I simply love its culture

I will be a guess dancer at the Escuela de Danza Moderna, take Cuban literature and some other classes at Havana's state university and do some independent cultural research. It does not matter if I can't transfer them.

If you were me where would you go and why( put aside all political factors) ?

Will going to Cuba have a bad impact on my transfer application in the future?

My last option: get the internship/job that I applied for.

Havana, because this is presently an amazing moment in Cuban history and culture and because of the nature of the opportunity that you have there. You can go off to do community service in Cuzco at various times throughout your college and postgrad career but the opportunity to be part of la Escuela de Danza, study lit, at this particular moment in time, can’t be missed. You could wind up being part of history, or helping to contribute to the soon-to-be-opening exchange between the US and Cuba.

:) I agree about being part of the history. I don’t know if Cuba will ever open or if it will do it soon, but I secretly want to be among the few people who know Cuba as it is today.
Just to let you all know, I am not a US citizen so there won’t be any travel restriction against me.
I apologize for the words that are missing in my first post. It’s too late to edit it

I agree- Being in Cuba at this time will offer you experiences that you wont come upon again. Both of my sons have been to Cuba with HS youth groups. MY youngest just returned in December. They both loved it the place and the people. Each has expressed a desire to go back and experiences the changes that will be happening. Either way You are bound to have a life changing experience. Enjoy!!

Yeah, I would try to do both, too. Two months is long enough to get a really good sense of a place, especially someplace small like Cuzco. And you would be hard pressed to find two more different places in the Hispanic world in this hemisphere than Havana and Cuzco.

If you do go to Cuzco, don’t let your interest in the Inca civilization of centuries ago blind you to the very interesting politics and ethnic tensions of modern-day Peru.

I’d vote for 4+2. Havana for all the reasons mentioned above and the chance to visit Cuzco as well–awesome.

D–an ex ballerina:) was in Cuzco last summer and absolutely adored the city and the area. She found the people there to be wonderful. But the Company she used to dance with had an exchange program in Cuba set up right after she went off to college and all who participated were terribly impressed with Cuban culture and the respect accorded to the performing arts and dancers.

Of course, the fact that this time is likely historic in the purview of Cuban political life would also be amazing to witness first hand. You are so lucky!!
