Part 1 of the USC application is due today, but it is optional. I was wondering if it helps to do it, because it asks for your current grades and mine aren't as high as I want them to be yet. Would it be smartest to skip this part of the application so they don't see my GPA yet? Or does it even make a difference?

If you are fairly sure you will apply to USC, I recommend you do Part 1 to save the $15. They do not ask for Part 1 to make any evaluations about admissions, they do it to increase their # of applications (if you spent the $10 for Part 1, you are more likely to return and complete Part 2) which increases selectivity and causes them to rise in the rankings.

It will not damage your “chances” in any way to submit Part 1.

The savings:

Part 1 = $10, Part 2 (if you submitted Part 1) = $40 for a total of $50

Part 2 alone = $65

The Part 1 deadline was extended to October 18th due to website issues: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1014713-usconnect-login-problems.html

Good luck!
