Would you retake for writing w/ these stats?

800M / 740R / 680W = 2220

If I retake, it will be my 3rd try on the SAT, which is kind of a lot. Would it be worth the retake if I ended up with...

760M / 680R / 760W = 2200

Composite would then be 800+740+760 = 2300. Worth it? Or is the writing not worth much anyway so not worth risking the 1540 M+R?

I'd say you're fine with a composite score of 2300.

It would really suck if you retook the test and did worse. :-</p>

I was wondering the same thing...my first and only SAT1 (may) scores were:

770 CR
770 Math
740 Writing 80 MC subscore, 7 essay

I am very satisfied with my Reading score because it is significantly higher than that of any practice test. Math I could definitely get 800. I am very dissapointed with my essay score though, and accordingly a bit dissapointed with my Writing score.
Do you think college admissions people will see the 7 essay and think that I am someone who can't form a coherent sentence?
Would it be worth it to retake the SAT in October if I get 800 math, 760 writing, but go down to 720 reading? I know a lot of colleges look at the combined top score, but I am hesitant to reveal my weak side of Reading Comp. Does a 2300 or 2320 combined score look much better than my 2280?

I am also considering trying the Essay Score Investigation 50 dollar thing. Has anybody tried this before? What do you think the chances of success are?
It doesn't seem particularly promising because if CB changes your grade it refunds your money, and CB does not like admitting that its system is imperfect. So from my cynical point of view, CB has no incentive to even consider changing my score...

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I'm kind of in the same situation. This was my third SAT.
CR 770
Math 760(but i have a 800 from previous exams)
Writing 680 (MC 66, Essay 10)
I thought about retaking it due to my horrible writing score, but writing section isn't that important anyways. So rather than thinking as a 2200 think like this. 1540+ 680. A 1540 is pretty impressive and it is of minor significance. If I got one more question right on the math and CR sections I would have had a 1600. Also for the writing if I got 2-3 more right I would have something like a 740 on the writing section, so I think you shouldn't retake it.

...Bump...

Flipsta_G- 770/770/740 retake because of the 740??? I think we should delete posts like this!!! It's 20 freaking points below you average section score!!!

-I think most schools realize that there is a formula to writing the essay and even some brilliant writers can mess it up. Just don't not make sure that ur essay four admission is written like this sentence :).

bump...any answers? btw the 2300 composite is hypothetical...it was kind of like, if i can improve the writing this much, is it worth the drop off in the other sections.

stambliark41,
what schools are you aiming at? I don't think that the adcoms are going to pay that much attention to writing this year, but it might be a tip factor.

Flipsta - IMO you should hold on your current scores. If you have SAT II scores, concentrate on those.

I'm VERY dissapointed with my writing score (800,800,700 composite), but the writing just doesn't mean enough at most schools to make me want to retake.

UC's are considering it though, right? Damn them.

Yes, UCs do consider it; however, a 2300 is more than enough to get into all the UCs with solid grades and SAT IIs. UCs are considerably less selective than HYPSM, so that 700 in writing should be fine. The UCs were basically responsible for the change to the new SAT in the first place, so they would look pretty silly if they didn't consider the writing.

I have two 800s on SAT2s, Math2 and US History, ohio_mom. SO you are saying I should concentrate on getting a 3rd good SAT2 score in a science (physics--I am thinking of majoring in some kind of engineering) ?

ohio_mom, I am aiming all the way at the top -- my 1st choice is Upenn Wharton. My grades are less than perfect (3.7UW, barely top 5%).

My stats are on this link. I was hoping to get your opinion on my chances + some non-UC safety schools as well.

A list of info for what I am looking for in a college are in this other link, if you have advice for safeties (non-UC) or any other choices to look into.

flipsta,
yes, try to nail physics or chemistry.
