I have found an opportunity to be a camp counselor over the summer. The camp is focused on teaching art to children which I am very excited about because it involves my two favorite things: art and teaching. The only thing is the place is 30 minutes away from my house without traffic. I think its a great opportunity but do you guys think its worth it?
Do you have a car? Are your parents okay with it? Can you afford gas & car upkeep if you drive that far every day? If so, then it sounds fine.
Where we live, 30 minutes isn’t far at all. Last summer I drove my daughter once a week to a museum almost an hour and a half away because she, too, loves art. If it’s working on something you really like, you won’t mind the commute at all.
Welcome to adulthood. 30 minutes is not a bad commute.
The thing is, I’m only 15 so I don’t drive yet. My mom will be working and my dad doesn’t know if he will be able to. And my brother said he will be ok driving me but only if he can because he is working too. I will most probably be volunteering there three times a week because that’s how it’s set up. You can’t choose what days you volunteer but you are assigned to weeks.
You’d need a reliable ride. Maybe the camp can sugges another counselor willing to pick you up.
I would talk to the camp and find out if it is a volunteer position that is okay with you coming only when you can make it on those 3 days. If they need someone who can basically guarantee availability for volunteer days I wouldn’t do it since it isn’t something you seem able to guarantee.
