Would you?

I am considering transfering out of the University of Washington and attending NYU. UW does not offer a doctoral degree in biology, but I'm only an undergraduate and I love UW plus the in state tuition is not bad either (all said it is under $17,000 a year, while NYU will probably cost over 40,000 a year). My family lives around New York and that is the only reason why I am considering NYU and Columbia. Do you think I should wait until I am applying for graduate school or transfer now?

If the only reason for transferring would be your family why would you go? If your happy at UW stay.

I have to transfer eventually for my graduate studies and that was the other reason.

What year are you?

It seems logical to me to stay at University of Washington until you graduate with your undergrad degree and then apply to NYU for grad school, as long as you're happy with the school socially and academically. It would be a huge transition socially and require a lot to transfer just for a year or two of undergrad, having to make new friends, etc. Financially you will save A LOT, and if you were to go with NYU, the debt you'd incur might overpower the benefits you might see yourself gaining.

Plus. if you're strong enough an applicant to have good chances of being able to transfer to NYU's undergrad program, you shouldn't have any problems applying to the grad school.

My 2 cents.
