So this is for my friend's girlfriend that didn't get into ANY colleges, I feel so bad for her because she is pretty smart so I wanted to help her out a bit. First of all, she applied to BC as her safety (stupid decision, I know) and then other colleges like Georgetown, Princeton, Harvard, Dartmouth, etc., and she got rejected at all of them but waitlisted at BC, but those still aren't good chances at all.

Anyways, my question is does anyone know any schools that are still accepting applications, and are at least semi-good? She is pretty stubborn and doesn't really want to go to a public college, so she is looking for something private, and something that would be out of Texas (where we live). She got around a 2000-2100 on her SAT and I think she is #2 or #1 in her class, so she has fairly decent stats. Thanks for anyone that can help, I know she would be devastated if she didn't have a college to go to in the fall.

Possibly some of the Canadian Schools like UBC. Maybe the state schools.
PG year at Boarding School?
Gap Year Programs (see book “the Gap Year Advantage”)

Who gave her such insanely bad advice on range of schools?

There are kids getting rejected with +2300 on SAT to those schools. Her odds going into this were not good! She may need a reality check on her expectations.

Wow, this is quite unfortunate. Did she not have a guidance counselor to warn her of this type of situation? But anyways I’m going to have to agree that state schools than transfer out is the best option for now.

Good Liberal Arts colleges I am aware of (because my son applied) that have rolling admissions or have a later deadline:
Drew University, NJ (we got an email from them stating deadline extended to April 10 I believe; very well regarded; a safety for Princeton rejected)
Austin College, TX (rolling admission I think; in her backyard - a great school)
U of Redlands, CA (rolling; top 10 masters university by feels like a Liberal arts school; excellent school)

I really hope she doesn’t get in anywhere. She is shallow and thinks she is too good so that is her fault. She’ll have to live with skipping a year.

Dont be too hard on her, guys, its obvious the school she went to had an environment that gave her a false sense of security. I can identify with her in that I had NO idea what I was up against until I discovered CC. I thought I was ahead of my class but I was dead wroooooooong.

If she really is #1 or #2 in her class in a Texas high school, she would have had guaranteed admission to UT through the top 10% law. It really is a shame that she didn’t at least apply there as a safety (and also apply to an honors program to make UT feel like a smaller school).

Now, she should just look at some of those rolling admissions schools, like the ones benel recommended above.

2000-2100 SAT? It’s certainly nothing to scoff at, but not extraordinary either. She was way over her head, and from the sound of it, still is. Out of Texas may be a relatively reasonable request, but no public universities? Her attitude is what got her in the mess in the first place. Maybe going to community college will do her a world of good.
About Canadian universities: 1. they are all public and 2. the deadlines are past, especially for international applicants. For example, UBC deadline was over a month ago.

That is really foolish. If I were her, I would have applied to several Unviersity of Texas schools. It probably would have been cheaper for her family, too.

Every year, the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) Space Availability Survey lists colleges and universities that still have seats for freshman and transfer students next fall. The link, previously at

^Being entitled is bad, but stop being a total d o u c h e wishing ill on others. Not trying to sound like a psychologist, but you would be a total wreck if you were not admitted anywhere.

This is not a normal year. Some of the less prestigious (outside of the top 20) private universities are still taking late applications past their deadlines. Your friend should call admissions directly.
