Wow alot of applicants

According to the waitlisted letter I got, 4,971 students applied for 480 spots. That's less than a 10% acceptance rate- isn't that ridiculous for Macalester?

it is!!!!!

yeah but macalester does not have a particularly large matriculation rate and therefore they must accept a lot more students than they expect to matriculate in the fall.

4971 students applied
480 spots in the 2011 class

??? students got admittance letters - less than 4971 but more than 480

I feel like I've read that in past years Mac has accepted somewhere between 30 and 40 percent of applicants but I don't have the numbers on hand. That said, it's definitely becoming more competitive, of course, so is everywhere else.

dat doenst mean mac only accepted 480 students lol
only about 30-40% admitted students do actually attend mac
so do the calculation!!

the rejection letter said they turned down two out of three applicants.

Last year I think Mac accepted 39% of its applicants.

after reading this thread is seems ridiculous that I'm even considering attending a college that accepts 83% of students when I got accepted to Macalester...
