<p>This one kid at my school just found out yesterday that he will be going to Harvard all four years for free and that he will also be getting paid 5000/year stipend! Insane...</p>

<p>was he really really really poor? for some reason i dont believe it. mainly because i didnt think harvard gave anything besides need based aid.</p>
<p>Could be his family's total income is less than $40,000/yr.</p>
<p>Harvard recently enacted a policy whereby parents in families with incomes of less than $40k are no longer expected to contribute to the cost of their children attending Harvard. They also lowered the expected contribution for families with incomes between $40-$60k. The 5k/yr stipend ... I don't know anything about.</p>
<p>and why would he find out now? too late after EA decisions, to early before RD decisions</p>
<p>Maybe he was admitted EA and just got his financial aid package?</p>
