So today I go to my mailbox, and lo and behold, there are THREE envelopes from Emory. "What in the world?" I say to myself. "Three envelopes? Did they accidently send three copies of the same thing?"

So I open the first one, and it's the generic "we received your application" envelope. But still a wonderful gesture. I put it aside to keep in my little Emory folder.

Then I open the second one. It's a letter thanking me for showing interest in their athletics program. However, I have never shown interest in Emory's athletic programs. Perplexing.

I open the third. It's a letter about Emory's superb journalism program. I'm still utterly confused, because never once have I shown interest in their journalism program or newspapers.

But then it dawns on me! In my application journalism and athletics were my top extracurriculars. I also wrote the extracurricular essay on the school newspaper. Which means that they must have scanned my application IMMEDIATELY upon receiving it (because the letters were postmarked the SAME DAY they would have received my application), seen that I did those ECs, and then sent off the right letters ON THAT VERY SAME DAY TOO! INTENSE! :)

I'm liking Emory more and more now! They acknowledge every single show of interest in the school; they were the only school that sent a letter acknowledging my sending of SAT scores, and after I requested the Emory Video Visit DVD and got that sent to me from the company, they sent me another letter thanking me for showing my interest (totally unnecessary!). Their mail makes me so happy :)

You and me both, lol. Instead of journalism, I received a letter about their computer science program but either way, it's nice to know that they care about you having interest in their school. Are you thinking about majoring in journalism?

emory is really great. i got six letters from them one day during october. it was really crazy because i thought they had some kind of mailing problem too, but they were all for different purposes.

anyways best of luck.. do you know when and how we get notified for ED? do they let us know before or on december 15? and is it via OPUS?

I asked one of the counselors if there is any way that some decisions can be released early and they said no, all of the decisions are released on the same day :( . As far as viewing your decision, you use opus. You should have recieved a password and username, just sign in and it should prompt you from there.

Probably a generic thank you, but it did take effort to send out that letter in the first place. A step many schools wouldn't even bother to take :)

And mashimlro, hope to see you too! Slowly but steadily Emory is growing upon me. They're actually probably the only school I'm applying to that has both a journalism and a neursoscience major. I wasn't planning on majoring in journalism but I think I just might now! :)

just fyi kids, OPUS is not very fun and can be quite frustrating. As a current Emory student let me tell you that it is not an accurate representation of our school. so don't take your future frustrations with opus out on the school. thought I should mention that as some of you get closer to decision time.
