I posted a message in the "chances" section inquiring about graduate school at the University of Chicago. (Of course most of those posts are from high school students. I will probably not get any replies on my post--lol) I was wondering what are my chances of entering the Uni of C. I majoring in English and Secondary Education as well as an associate degree in nursing and a TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) certificate. I will complete this in 2 more years. (It will take a total of 6 years). I want to enroll in the MAPSS or the developmental psychology program at the University of Chicago. My plan is to go to school while supporting myself and two children as a nurse. I am also considering Standford. Both of these programs have awesome programs in educational/developmental psychology. Any ideas or input? My gpa is a 3.5 (though, I am estimating it will be a 3.7 by the time I graduate). I have not taken the GREs, and I am currently working on my Honors Thesis. The Honors Thesis is a 60-70 page research paper that I have to defend in front of a board (similar to a discertation). My biggest problem is that I go to Kent State University, a low ranking university. How do you think I will do as far as enterance. What are can I do? I am expecting strong letters of recommendation as well.

What are you hoping to do with the psychology degree? If you are planning to be a professor at a major university then getting into the best grad program available is a good move. If you are planning some other career path you might want to rethink the need for U of C or Stanford. In addition you should check out USN&WR rankings for educational psychology programs. There may be some schools there that will surprise you in terms of their rankings, perhaps better than Standford and Chicago.
