my HOPEFUL hook with the bad stats is: My tremendous effort put into learn English (4 years in America, taking AP English lit and gettin an A) and the time-consuming job of helping my parents everyday... (at their shop)

Here's my ARROGANT list... (*=safeties)
Princeton (deferred ED)
Stanford (my first choice after Princeton)
Johns Hopkins
Cornell
Harvard
Washington Univ at St.L
UPenn
Cal (2nd choice after Princeton)
UCLA
*UCSD
*UCSB
*USC

In terms of the kind of the school.....
I WANT:
- A somewhat renouned school (all around...all subjects...)
- Midium to big school size
- A school with at least a little bit of ASIAN community
- SAFETY, meaning near 100% chance of getting in
- IF POSSIBLE......1. WEST COAST
2. NO LETTERS OF REC (If i ask them again, it would be
my 4th time asking them for recommendation.....I know
this is almost impossible factor to ignore...but just to let you know..)
3. GREAT FINANCIAL AID (FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENT)

I DON'T WANT:
- A liberal arts school
- small school
- very regional and not nationally and internationally known university

THANKS A LOT AND I'D APPRECIATE FEEDBACK ON MY ARROGANT COLLEGE LIST AS WELL

LEt me get this straight - you're an international student? And you consider UCSD a safety? Hmmmm. Good luck with that. I'd suggest UC Irvine as a true safety but too late to apply there now. And, none of the UC's are "Great" with financial aid for internationals. You might want to take a look at the U of Washington, Arizona State U, U of Arizona, and U of Wisconsin as possible good fit/safer bets. Tulane might also fit the ticket but you will be at a disadvantage there, and at all of the privates on your list, without teacher and school recommendations.

well.... technically, i'm in california for more than 4 years, and I should be considered as the CA "resident"

no, I HAVE recs for all the privates on my list, but I don't want to bother them any more (unless it's absolutely necessary) because I have asked for recommendation from them for more than 4 times

wait... so if you are in california for more than 4yrs, then you are CA RESIDENT??

i thought only PERMANENT RESIDENTS, meaning ppl with green cards, get the fin aid stuff like citizens.,,

even if you lived in CA for more than 4~5yrs, if you don't have a green card, and if you have student visa(F1,2?) or something, then you ARE still an INTERNATIONAL STUDENT.
(I also lived in CA for little more than 4 yrs, but I still count as an international student since I have F2 visa.)

also, i wouldn't consider UCSD a safety... though you do have a good chance in many of the places that you are applying to(not considering fin aid). I've actually read from UPENN app that they are NOT need-blind for international students, which sucks.

I KNOW
so I'll correct my first post:
ALTHOUGH I AM ABLE TO BARELY AFFORD PRIVATE COLLEGES, IT WOULD BE SOOOO MUCH BETTER IF THEY HAVE NEED-BLIND AID FOR INT'LS....(I don't expect any aid from UCs, Cornell, Penn, Stanford)
ONLY SCHOOLS I EXPECT FIN AID FROM IS NEEDBLIND SCHOOLS SUCH AS: PRINCETON, HARVARD, WashU....

And regarding that 4 year thing, I IMPLIED in one of my essays that I am willing to be a citizen and permanent resident because I already applied for green card...and when I called the admission officer, she told me it should substantially put you on similar scale as other california candidates (although not exactly on the same level..)

I hope it's all cleared up right now...

rupang-Wash U is need aware, i applied there EDI (deferred) trust me it's need aware

s***, why are they lying to me that they are need blind? well, i'm not goin to Washu unless they are giving me any money...
what about USC, anybody?

bump???pleassseeeeeeeeee

usc is totally NOT need blind...

ppl in my school say: give them $$ you'll get in...

hahahah i saw that comin...................ok what other school suggestions guys????(girls, for that matter..lol)
