WOW-so many kids

Interesting experience happened today:

I called the Exeter admissions office to make sure they got my check for the application, and the lady asked for my name. After giving it to her, she went through a list asking me if I was from a certain state. She must have gone through at least 10 states, even after I said I was female and was applying for junior year. My name isn't very common which is the thing that shocked me, and she wasn't even done with the list of states before I just told her Colorado. I knew that a lot of kids applied, but the sheer amount that had an uncommon name like mine.....i can only fathom how many kids are applying with more common names.

korean name i'm guessing? yeah, i can see that happening.

during my interview week, i saw koreans at every school i went to.

SPS was booked for the 10 days I was availible, Exeter and Andover had ONE FREE SLOT.

So ya. Alot of kids apply...

BUT: Andover told me that about 70% of the people that interview and tour actually complete the application process, and they said it was that was across most major schools that are competitive.

yeaaaah. a lot of kids apply. but don't be too intimidated by that.
At Exeter this year, they accepted about 20 or so more kids than they usually do, probably because a lot more people applied and they saw more people who could do well in the school. The number of acceptances aren't set in concrete, so if they really feel that you really should come to Exeter, the number of applications shouldn't change that.
BUT.
Sometimes, your chances to get in can be lowered by how many similar people apply. If they have 30 hard core debaters, what's the point of having 30 of them? Or if 200 math geniuses (genii...?) apply from KOREA, they aren't gonna take the 200 math geniuses, no matter how good they might be at math and if they're much better than someone applying from say, Cambodia. (completely random country, it's just that I can't think of anyone off the top of my head here who's from Cambodia)

This may be a good year for reach candidates to apply to some of the more selective schools, so there may be more requests for interviews. In view of the financial situation, some of the top schools have quietly decided to admit more students rather than raising tuition or cutting FA.

i had my interview at exeter the other day and my interviewer (lucky for me, i got a really nice one) said that i am very independent and that i am open and interested in so many things. is this a good thing? and also, i'm from the philippines and there were about 3-5 people who applied to exeter from the phil. =]

OMG, NO!
If you are independent and open minded that is not a good sign... that is so hippie like!''

What were you thinking saying that ? Hopefully the interviewer will forget what you said. If i were you I would call him back up and say that I did not mean what I said and I am actually close minded and do not like trying new things or listening to new ideas.

And what was this rubbish about being independent ?? Are you nuts ?? That is SO not what they want to hear ! These prep school want you to be dependent on them, why would they want someone who is so independent that he think he/she does not need them to prep him/her ?? Conformity and dependency are the keys to success !! Haven't you been in the army boy ?? Loose the spine boy, such traits are not desired here.

Don't fret though you have not completely sabotaged your chances of admission... at least you have not said you are an "intellectual that likes being challenged" or alternatively that you "like helping old women cross the street" ! Because that would have totally screwed over your chances of getting in. Calm down all is not lost there is still hope !

HURRY or you may have no chance of getting into any school let alone Exeter.

You better make a move before its too late and correct your mistakes !

hahaha kaf

lol

:]

lol (i really dont know y cc requires 10 words)

@kafkareborn: What asiankid29 said was how HIS/HER INTERVIEW complimented on him/her, not what he/she told the interviewer... From what you wrote I think you've misunderstood sth...

naaa he didnt miss understand him. Hes mocking the fact that the kid asked if something was good that obviously was a positive sign. I think you misunderstood a little bin...

haha lolz that aint funny [oops]

i'm sorry kaf!i really have no clue what a good/bad thing is and i know that there are people here who could help me so i asked...i'm really sorry if it sounded as if i was bragging.. :</p>
