Unfortunately I'm on the last summer orientation session.

Tomorrow is the registration day and i just checked that all BIO311C are already closed except for TIP.

will they open more? when? how do i get it?

Some classes will open up. For me, all the Stats were closed and they opened them up on orientation day. But who’s to know if they will open up that specific one.

Some classes will not open. These are mainly ones that are not intended for freshmen only and are already filled by upperclassmen. Examples I can give (for the Business school) are MIS301 and CMS306M. I wanted both classes, and I essentially refreshed the Find Courses page once an hour (or more often) every day since my registration day, until they opened up. Seemingly randomly, some person would drop, and I would see the open spot and take it.

You are at a disadvantage, being so late in the registration process, that you will have less time (I believe) after orientation before it stops allowing you to change your schedule. However, in the days before schools starts (add/drop week) and during the first 12 class days, lots of people will be dropping classes and you can always change. This is often when your waitlist will kick in and get you a class, if it offers a wait list.

Also remember that many people forget to pay their tuition by the due date, and their classes get dropped when they do so. That is when more spots will open up too. It’s surprising, apparently, how many people forget, from what I’ve heard.

anieo is correct. Many of the closed class will open up on registration day. However, the waitlisted courses generally stay closed/waitlisted. Just make sure that you are first in line to register because they get filled FAST. I’m talking 10min after the opening of registration the good classes are full (best times, teachers). I recomend getting on your laptop and registering so you can beat the rush. Thats what I did and I got some good classes.

Edit: WTK, I believe that everyone gets the same amount of time to register. I went to the orientation at the beggining of the month and my registration period ends on friday. The orientation on friday (transfer) will have from then to the middle of August to register… so in the end it all works out.

Oh okay, mine ends on the 17th too. I just though they all cut off on that same day.

My last name was in the end of the alphabet, so I couldn’t register until 10. I did it on my laptop, and I didn’t get what I had originally planned. But I ended up dropping everything I registered for on that day anyway, and totally changing my schedule around, and I think it works much better now. I was glad I had time to work though it.

Also remember if you are like the first 10 or so on a waitlist for an often-taken class (let’s say SOC 302, Intro to Sociology) you are almost guaranteed to get it, eventually. That’s what I was told at orientation, and it seems to hold true from the ones I’ve been on. It just took about two weeks before the spots opened, but they eventually did.

Thanks a lot for the input!!!

i’m ready to fight tomorrow.

The government class my son wanted was full by the time he registered last Friday (he also is at the end of the alphabet). Later that night, before midnight, the class opened and he was able to register for it. Then it closed again. I guess one person dropped the class and because he checked at the right time, he got in.
So, if you don’t get the classes you want, keep checking, you might get lucky.

Also, MANY classes will open up after the tuition payment deadline, August 12 at 5 p.m. (If you forget to pay your tuition on time, your registration is canceled so you are dropped from all of your classes - making room for other people - and you will have to re-register from scratch.)

By the way, be sure to pay your fall tuition on time.

wait for payday

just back from the registration battle.

i didn’t get BIO311C. i’ll keep trying!!!

but lucky that I got M and CHEM at good time.

ok so i have 3 back to back classes:

“Hard choices”- TTH,GAR,2-3:30
“ECO 304K”- TTH,JES, 3:30-5
“M 408K”- TTH,RLM, 5-6

is this going to be a problem or do i have enough time to get to all these classes? i’m not sure how far apart these buildings are or anything and i dont want to have to rush to class

GAR to JES is no problem but you’re gonna have to rush from JES to RLM

Yeah, JES to RLM is almost impossible by foot. You’ll have to run or hurry and it’s very hot outside, and you will probably be uncomfortable in your Calc class for a while. I would try to switch stuff around and make it work out. Don’t drop the class, but put yourself on a waitlist and hope something opens up (it will).

I always like to be a few minutes early, so the only back to back classes I scheduled are in the same building.

[A bit OT, but do you really want that ECO class? There is a 1-2pm open with Hickenbottom (in WEL which is near GAR), who IMO is a better teacher. Wiseman is known to have some… interesting methods to teaching Economics apart from straight lecture, which don’t necessarily help enhance your understanding and just wastes a lot of time.]

If your schedule stays like this, you might want to get a bicycle at the back to school bike auction (if you don’t bring one to campus). Last year this was on Sept 4.

For those still looking for openings, I believe there is an orientation session tomorrow (Friday) probably around 2 pm. The following colleges/school will be represented at the session:
* Communication
* Health Professions
* Liberal Arts
* Natural Sciences
* Undergraduate Studies
I am guessing spots for at least these colleges will open up so just keep your eyes open.

I am 6’2 and don’t think a BMX would suit me. Hope my yellow mountain bike works. Here is how mine looks too but that is not the real pick of my bike:

How hard will it be to get from SZB (Sanchez education building) to PHR (pharmacy) in 10 minutes?

There are always spots opened for each orientation. So don’t lose hope.

@cpq1xtbu Those buildings are very far away from each other. SZB is one of the farthest south buildings on campus, located at the corner of MLK Blvd. and Wichita Street. PHR is located north of MAI. Walking, this is impossible. I put PHR at a good 10 minute walk from the south exit of MAI (considering you have to go to your specific class, you don’t want to walk in the second class starts, etc). I would even say on a bike it would be difficult, as you have to cross a few roads and navigate around pedestrians, unlock your bike, lock your bike, get to class, etc. Not a good choice.

@anhtimmy: Not necessarily. For freshmen-geared intro classes for majors, sure, but not a lot of other stuff opens up.

Thanks for the info wtk. I will let my son know. It sounds like he will need to completely change his schedule. The back to back classes are each only offered one time, so he’s going to have to choose which to drop.
