I was interested in seeing how I would do on the act compared to the Sat and-wow! So, I went online to the official site and took their practice test. I had never once prepared for this test and, after taking the first two sections (english and math), I got a 35 and a 36, respectively. Now, I must say that it was much easier than the sat quite straight forward. If you've taken through precalc, the math is easy and the english just seemed like common sense/reasoning skills. I'm really happy and just might take the act instead. I know realize how bad the Sat really is!

I've been rethinking my stance on the ACT as well. If I can do well with minimal prep, I might go for it later this year.

What kind of score range were you getting for the SAT, if you don't mind me asking?

Just make sure you do timed practice tests. From what I have heard the timing is what kills a lot of ACT takers.

Well, my math score has been 800 for a while. My critical reading scores are both low-mid 700's (on average) which is quite good, but not compared to some of the ACT scores. And given the fact that I didn't prep at all, I think prepping for a week could raise my scores even higher.

Stix.
I'm not surprised you did good on ACT.
Getting a 1500+ on the SAT and a 35/36 on ACT is understandable
The end.

If you got a 1200 on SAT and 26 on ACT i'd be surprised.

Well, even so. I felt the ACT was easier and more practical. And that's after lots of sat prep and no act prep. I guess it depends on the person.

Hahah, oh i didn't know you meant that sorry lol.
Yes I agree with that. I spent 1-2 yrs studying for SAT--got 1350/1600
Spent one time looking over ACT, got only two or three wrong. SWEET!

"Wow... the sat sucks!"

True that.

I love that ACT. I don't know why... I just love it. I think that it's fun to take!

Guys, your forgetting that the SAT and ACT employ different testing philosophies. The ACT tests harder material in less time in a straightforward way. And, remember, you've been preparing for the ACT all your life, especially your high school career, since the material tested follows most high school curricula. So, don't be surprised if you're a good student, and you're doing well on the ACT with what seems like no preparation at all. You've been prepared for it in high school.

Stix just make sure ur practicing the ACT under time constrints b/c the test is honestly a joke if u have unlimited time.

act is hard because the sections are so long and the timing is pretty tight.

That's one reason why people shy away from it, but I like it better.
