is it just me or are the smartest people on this website. everyone gets liek an 800 (2400))(cept me of course) and its scary. is the rest of the world like this. i mean i was thriled with my 2110. gees.
anyone know what i mean!

we come here cuz we have nothing else to do besides study and compare ourselves to others of our own caliber on this site. It turns life into a game, a competition on who can do better on stuff, and I guess cuz we are always worried that we wont' do well in life, it just depends on which person your talkn about, im alittle of both.

your SAT score is outstanding and should be commended!! what kind of people do you think are going to search for a discussion forum about college admissions?....that's right, smart, driven people

CC is an assortment of competitive, hard working kids who are a bit paranoid about college admissions.

oh and BTW, a 2110 is an amazing score.

we are actually robots who are programmed to post on college confidential with the intention of making stupid people like you feel even more stupid...

lol jk! there are ALOT of extremely smart people but I think thats generally because they tend to care more about getting into those dream schools.

yeah, this site makes me feel super dumb and super inexperienced. It's a good thing for me though, since my family raves about me to noooo eennnnd.

I worked my ass off and went from a 1230-1480 sat score. Yes, and I paid good money for it too! So I was all excited about that, and about the fact that I do a lot of ECs and all until I come to THIS SITE where it seems that EVERYONE IS SAVING THE WORLD, 3000 ECs AT A TIME.
And had all of their poems published
and are national merit scholars
and have won all of these competitions.

2110 is really good.

Yea, and don't you think most of them look all the SAME? Hopefully you will offer something different and stand out. Wouldn't that be refreshing for the adcoms to see? At least that is what I am betting on!

just cuz a lot of them look the same doesn't mean their efforts will be futile. It still counts for something, unless colleges are purposely looking for something alittle different from almost all the other people they already admitted into the college who are that great. peachykween, if people rave about you, make them do it in your recs, that way admins will be like, OHHHHHH he's cool, or something, and your in.

I think most people here are indeed above average in intelligence. However, you must realize that there's a difference between well-educated people and truly intelligent people. Unfortunately, most of the other "over-achievers" on this site that I've meant have no real drive, but only maintain amazing grades, scores, and extra-curricular activities because their parents push them. This isn't true for all, though.

i always thot i was smart, until i stepped upon this site. i try to avoid looking at ppls stats after a month or two, it simply makes me lose confidence -___-

A 2110 gives you a shot at admission for many really great schools. Some of those kids with the near perfect or perfect SAT's will not be accepted at the top schools.

Schools make their selections based on all sorts of factors. Sometimes the process seems arbitrary from an outsiders viewpoint. You cannot control some of the factors, but you can highlight many that might be of interest. Be careful and specific in describing why you are interested in each school. Highlight things in your life where you have demonstrated growth, maturity and passionate interests. Even the most selective and academically-oriented schools want a student population with some diversity. None want a student population of dull bookworms.

how amazed are all who come here.......

But i believe CC helps..... it helps u to realize that u can never be the best ...there wiill always be ppl no matter how high u rise....
and that is what keeps us thriving for more......more compeition and more success......and even more dedication to College app....

It is gr8 though

edad offers a lot of wisdom.

I personally know a few kids in my school who are ranked in the top 5. Super high SAT scores & obviously a high gpa. Looking at their STATS, immediately one would think "Ivy bound". They are involved in a couple of clubs, play the piano and might also play a common sport. National merit finalist and all that. But, they are introverts, non-social people, offering nothing to class discussions and contributing little if anything to the clubs they joined. To me, they are just 'warm bodies'. Sure, colleges do want kids like this, but certainly not the majority of their class.

Any school who rejects me based primarily on my SAT scores and gpa (which is good but not perfect) without placing heavy emphasis on my ECs, teacher recs, character and essays has done me a favor.

The people who post their 2400s and 4.0s and president of a gazillion clubs and 80 volunteer hrs per week are all TERRIBLY INSECURE. They need to validate themselves by asking what their chances are for the ivys and have people respond, "don't worry, you're fine, you'll get in". It's stupid really. I have like no extracurriculars or sports (except BAND. Woo band) so don't worry, I'm sure you'll do fine, and ignore the people with a superiority complex.

ALSO don't let CC suck up too much of your time :D

The dean of admissions for Columbia is a family friend (don't worry all of you paranoid Columbia-appliers, I'm not even considering it, i need to leave ny but i digress) and remember him saying something along the lines of "Have you ever been in a room full of people with 1600s? I have, and I almost died of boredom."
Be interesting, and different. Yes, the college-obsessed people you're competing against have 2400s and 4.5 GPAs and are Presidents of South American countries. But they aren't you, and won't bring the same things you will to a college.

Right, like for MIT, the admissions rate for people with 1600s is only 50%.

It's a numbers game, unfortunately.

Guys, I REALLY want to know like where the 1600s, gazillion activities, 4.5 GPAS, people ten years ago are up to now present day.

"Right, like for MIT, the admissions rate for people with 1600s is only 50%."

only 50%!....if that is the case, then I definitely want a 1600....

That admisssion rate is pretty high and would only encourage more people to get a perfect score.

Guys, I REALLY want to know like where the 1600s, gazillion activities, 4.5 GPAS, people ten years ago are up to now present day.

I only know of one, personally. They are very successful in their profession & make a considerable amount of money. They have probems with relationships, have no common sense and few interests. I say "they" but this is a real person.
