wow

<p>it's hard enough getting finaid for students here.... =/</p>

<p>Sad but true. One thing UCLA needs to work on (seriously) is aid. It's great to capture all the good California students, but it's not really convincing the OOSers and internationals to go there. Instead, they go to privates like USC and Stanford because the cost is in most cases LESS.</p>

<p>Not a pretty picture.</p>

<p>another good public vs. private point to consider...</p>

<p>The UCs are the only public universities I applied to, the rest say "100% of demonstrated need met!" :). And USC has no finaid for international students.</p>

<p>Yes, I'll probably not end up going to UCLA, because of the money :(.</p>

<p>TheOneCurlyFry,</p>

<p>Don't rule out UCLA yet. Like I said, check out private sources of funding, which are plenty. See what UCLA is willing to offer as well.</p>

<p>"100% of demonstrated need met!" </p>

<p>FinAid packages are covered in grants, loans, work-study... So, just because they say they'll cover you 100% doesn't mean they'll cover you with only grants. (Grant:loan ratios)</p>

<p>Of course I'm not ruling out UCLA :). Why would I apply, otherwise?</p>

<p>I know they meet FinAid with grants, loans and work-study, but I've applied to mostly small LACs, and Ivies, and their loans and work are much smaller compared to their grant.</p>

<p>Where do I find private sources of funding? Most scholarships are only applicable for US citizens or permanent residents, OR students already enrolled in college.</p>

<p>maybe you can start here:</p>

<p><a href="http://www.edupass.org/finaid/databases.phtml%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://www.edupass.org/finaid/databases.phtml&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p>

<p>i love international students! like half of my friends are not from the US and it's great; international moms tend to make the best food. i'm really excited to bring home some international students for the holidays who can't get home.</p>

<p>Thanks a ton!</p>

<p>Haha, I'll tell my mom that! Although my culinary abilities end with Cup Noodles. I can make them very well!</p>

<p>Well, I really really hope UCLA accepts me ^_^.</p>

<p>would ucla accept 4.0 uc gpa student with 2100 sat scores? :[</p>

<p>yes, they do.</p>

<p>That's pretty much the average...well gpa's like 4.2, but I think you're good.</p>

<p>Zarrahb,</p>

<p>Were your emails to UCLA written like this post? If so, the fact that your writing is unintelligible may play a part.</p>

<p><em>sigh</em> more freaking out written oddly, with no prior research.
STOP FREAKING OUT WITHOUT CAUSE!!!!
(that is a general address to all high school seniors)

<p>i dont think u people seem to give a damn about this do you? look u were in the same position once too ..(lol maybe uve forgotten since its been "oh such a while" ) agreed ur in ucla or where ever.good for you. the rudeness isnt appreciated .and besides i thought people helped each other out in these forums....looks more like a newbie-bashing site to me. besides i cant understand why people like the two of you(liyana179...) post here anyway ?
(forums are meant to help people out...not downtrod on those who are new to this environment)</p>

<p>--HOPE this is "intelligible" enough for u ol farts;) lol</p>

<p>i wasn't trying to be rude, but tone of voice doesn't come across much in writing. something i forget from time to time.
and writing style, as you yourself have pointed out, DOES reveal a lot about the person.
i thought you were a sloppy, uncaring, entitled, just-give-me-the-answers-even-though-you've-said-them-a-whole-bunch-of-times-in-many-other-places kind of person.
you think of me as a noobie-basher old fart with nothing better to do xD
i suppose we all get what we deserve through what we put out there, fair enough.
but the point i was trying to make is, that if you want answers to very straightforward questions (when do you get decisions, etc), that they are very, very easy to find. if you are just looking for a venue to rant about how you're sooooo in the dark about everything, personally we've all heard that about 10 million times and i'm not terribly sympathetic. i've come to the conclusion that you seniors are not helping yourselves out by biting your nails and worrying yourselves sick for a month. i'm not saying, don't be involved and concerned a little, but don't stress unnecessarily. i'm trying to HELP you, here ;)
although, perhaps my logic has overwhelmed my emotions and empathy too much. yes, i DO empathize with you. yes, i DO remember the horrid months of february and march where all i wanted was ANSWERS!!! but i try to stick to logic in my posts, because illogical and emotional and self-indulgent posts that come across as "i'm so stressed and i'm acting like the only one in this boat" don't do much for me. and i also don't respect posts that insult the person without cause. perhaps we came across as terse and rude, but we've seen too many posts like your first one before, and they don't inspire us to WANT to help their authors. so yes, i do have more "scholarly" things to do, but i and everyone else here takes the time to help others out who seem to genuinely merit it.
so i hope we can come work past our first impressions and better understand where all of us are coming from.
and i do wish you luck in your admissions, despite appearances ;)</p>

<p>looks more like a newbie-bashing site to me.</p>

<p>yes, so? </p>

<p> </p>

<p>...............:p</p>

<p>I wasn't trying to "downtrod" you. I was 100% serious. Did you write your email like this?</p>

<p>I'm old enough to know that writing emails intelligibly will help get your questions answered. I'm not too old to not know that a lot of teenagers avoid this fact when they write.</p>
