I've always been sorta surprised at how obssessed a lot of people get with getting into certain colleges...but I guess I never really knew because I didn't figure out what my number 1 college was until now (University of Chicago :) ). I opened their advertising letter a couple days ago and started looking into the school and it sounds perfect in all aspects (except the weather) from the academics to the style of social life (I'm not a party animal, but I'm not a study rat either). Question: Is early action just like regular early action or is it closer to early decision in terms of demonstrated interest?

To be honest, I've never really figured out what EA really meant in terms of interest, either, outside of the SCEA places and possibly Georgetown.

But if it's your number one, then go EA. You'll have your decision earlier, which is key.

The thing with Chicago's EA is that it is non-binding. For me I applied EA because UChicago is/was my first choice. If it is yours then I HIGHLY advise EA. You get your decision in mid/late December and get your FA estimate a few weeks later. This way you can see if the dream is still alive and atainable in time to still apply elsewhere if need be. And you can apply to other places and still do UC EA. (Just becareful to read the other schools trems for applying EA)
I applied to one school got in and have been set for months. lol.

"Is early action just like regular early action?"

Yes. It IS regular early action. No rules, no restrictions (yet), not binding. You can apply anywhere else early at the same time, as long as it isn't a place that prohibits an EA application to Chicago when you are applying early there. (I.e., Yale, Stanford, and Brown.)

But . . . one of the consequences of the wide-open nature of Early Action is that more people apply relative to binding Early Decision schools. So the Early Action admission rate at Chicago isn't really that much higher than the Regular Decision rate.

^Brown has restrictions?

I think I'm going to go EA to Chicago, UT-Austin, and Penn State. If I get into Chicago, I'll stop applying. Thanks for your assistance, everyone.
