very upset with my score. got a 560 on math and a 600 on CR. is it alot easier to improve your math score than CR?

I would think so.

Probably. CR is more understanding passages, which can be difficult to practice for. For math, if you do enough practice problems, you start to recognize that a lot of the problems are very similar. I took a few private tutoring sessions just for math, and I was able to improve my score 60 points to meet my goal (after about 4 sessions withing 2 and a half weeks). I would suggest getting a tutor if you want to improve math.

**** i cant afford a tutor. i guess ill have to try and teach myself the math. any tips on how to up my math by the june sat??? just take a bunch of practice sections???

The first thing before to do well on math section is to have a good foundation. Re-read carefully the Barron's math review,it's a very good stuff - full of details and examples. Try to memorize the functions,properties,... The more u read the more u will get familiar with them. After "consuming" it,jump to the tests. When u face a problem, the functions, properties will re-appear and you only need to apply the number. Of course, there are some reasoning questions which are a bit difficult. You can't do these one like a machine. Try to express the question ur own way, that will make the questions easier to understand.

I agree with tee8tee. Practicing tests will help fine-tune a score, but if you want a drastic increase, start with the basics. Buy a book that has a lot of descriptions of different types of questions, not one with just practice tests.

A good math book which focuses on stratagies and patterns is
KELLER'S SAT GAME PLAN.(you can get it on Amazon) There aren't any practice tests, but it does a great job of breaking down the test into types of problems and ways to solve (mostly without algebra). I know a lot of kids who have found it really helpful in raising their math scores quickly.

familiarize yourself with any formulas/topics that you dont know and just do lots of practice tests. You don't need a tutor....ask your math teacher for help if you're struggling with anything in particular. Good luck.
