i look like a hardened 30 y/o ;)

"you'll be able to learn more from the preps, ROTC and prior enlisted, at least in regards to military stuff." And those with prior service are very highly respected for their experience.

Absolutely right. In addition, each cadet brings something to the table. There may be some skinny guy who has a tough time with pullups but can help other cadets with calculus. Or there might be a female cadet who is a very strong but not a fast runner who can help tutor classmates in chemistry. Somehow that skinny kid will improve pullups and the girl will improve times. Someone else will need help learning Knowledge.

Every one of the cadets has what it takes to succeed. And every one will need at least a bit of help at something, sometime. And every one will use their own strengths to help out a colleague who needs it. (Sure hope I don't sound like Pollyanna.)

pull-ups... eh, maybe i should start practicing those again

o! o! raises hand!!! I'm that skinny nerdy kid! lol. ;)

2100 SATs, JROTC, tri-varsity athlete (captain of football team) and a 95 UW GPA (plus 290 hours of community service).

I was put on the NWL and eventually NMMI Civil Prep because I doctor decided that I had "back trouble."

Don't give me crap about "all the direct admins are more qualified than prep kids."

Oh, and for those going to Roswell, I'll see you there this year. (I'm probably going to be the only Asian kid there. ;))

cesare...its all good in the neighborhood...cuz i was too

Somewhat in response to shogun, but certainly some others here. Without the anger part of it ... I think you can say that -sometimes - in the broadest sense that people are 'victims' of 'politics' in the WP admissions process. It is just that it is very open.

The distibution according to congressional districts assures some candidates get in from one district that wouldnt from another, Corps atheletes may from time to time get in over a candidate that we might deem 'more qualified. This is all very open. As I see the goal at WP is not to achieve some goal for the individual that gets in , but to achieve the best for the country and the academy, I would say the process has worked well.

Politics come in as well in other areas, women aren't allowed into some branches I believe. As I understand it the military is fine with it being open, but not the politicians... Army works for the politicians...soem random thought, curious as to what others think

I want to be clear - I just saw shoguns post - and happend to have that one on my mind. Dont want to appear to be picking on the esteemed and long time shogun

Onto the main point about civil prep - my son attended civil prep and it was probably for two reason the less important one was a vey competitive district, but more important it was not an athelete.... academics were VERY strong .... Dissapointed at first -yes- best hing that could have happened ABSOLUTELY... like every opportunity take advantage and make the most of it ..S has ( i believe) with civl prep and while time will tell... he is much better positioned to thrive at WP rather than jus t survive.... When we were considering civil prep , I was sent a letter from a WP grad, whose son was put into civil prep due to a june injury -- he was stunningly positive about it ..

in a few weeks it will matter little and for the nmi guys you have the 'old post' in you life experiences

isn't the first captain a non-direct admin?

i wonder who does the best:

direct admits
civil prep
usmaps
college rotc
prior service (no prep)

i know i'm gunna get killed there academically, i'll be going for extra help so much they'll be asking me to leave.

I can't find anything that says she was prep anywhere, but she graduated high school in 2001 so I'm sure she did.

Seems the 2001 First Captain was from USMAPS:

Is there no edit button on these forums? I meant 2001-2002 in the last post.

Unfortunate, that site would have been helpful.

sorry for the typos bfore .. hopefully the sense is in the message
