**WPI EA/RD class of 2021**

@Motiv8tedmom23 I logged back into my portal and there was a new letter titled “merit award” under my acceptance letter. I’d been on once before this morning, and there was nothing, so they probably just uploaded some.

For general info: didn’t do css or fafsa

I used this template (coolforcats started it for MIT) and I’m just adding my version here if it’s helpful.

Recommendations (teacher’s subject, 1-10 rating, details):
Teacher Recommendation #1 (AP Physics C, Physics Club): 10/10, he writes amazing recs, I was one of seven total girls to take APC, one of four girls to take Phys234, one of very few 4yr physics students to tutor at his club
Teacher Recommendation #2 (English I Honors, III Honors): 7-9/10, he’s seen my academic growth but again I don’t have the best relationship so it could go either way
Counselor Rec: 8/10, he’s a bit boring but he’s seen my growth as a student and as a person which I think helps
Additional Rec: n/a
Interview: cancelled last minute

Other:
Date Submitted App: 11/1
U.S. State/Territory or Country: New Jersey
School Type: Highly competitive magnet
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket Range: 100k+
Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athlete, development): female in physics, dancer (if that even matters)

Reflection
Strengths: four years of physics (5 semesters, AP and college level), okay GPA, lots of commitment to service and volunteering, being a girl in physics
Weaknesses: less-than-optimal standardized test scores, most likely sub-par writing
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: my scores are on the higher end of their median, plus I demonstrated interest which they consider
What would you have done differently?: work harder on my SATs (?)
Where else did you apply?: MIT (EA deferred), Brown, Columbia, RPI, Stevens (maybe), Lehigh (maybe)

General Comments & Advice: make sure you know why you would go there, make them know why you want WPI over anywhere else.

D deferred. She is devastated.

Son Accepted

33 ACT

Deferred does NOT mean rejected! I used to work in admissions and it is a tough job. We are not perfect.

You are at the beginning and not the end of your trip. Find your favorite physical outlet and go running, split wood, climb a mountain, cross country ski, go swimming, but stay calm!

What do you think you want to study?

Looking at when EA2 decisions were released last year, I think we will know this Friday at 5pm. Anyone heard anything that would confirm?

Son also EA2-guessing from EA1 that we won’t hear until close to the 10th, but hope your prediction of Fri 3rd at 5pm comes true. S is very anxious. Stats-SAT 770 Math, 700 Eng. GPA 3.8 UW, 4.16 W. WPI is his top choice.

Just saw on the Admissions Twitter feed that it is next week… :frowning:

chel17 - with those stats, I would think your S will be a slam dunk for acceptance. Best of luck!

Yeah - they said by 2/10/17.

So looks like Friday is confirmed? Twitter said this week and their website says 2/10.

Yes! The WPI Admissions twitter account posted: BREAKING NEWS: @WPI Early Action Round 2 decisions will be released on your portal this Friday #WPI2021 #GoWorldClass

Does anyone know what happens if you are denied. It appears from the EA1 round that the individual portal is only updated if you are accepted or deferred and all others are left in limbo…i.e. no updates to their portal. Is this right?

Any idea when (what time) on Friday the decisions will be posted on the portal?

FWIW – The EA Round 1 decisions were posted (in December) just a few minutes before 5PM.
Good luck to everyone who is waiting and hoping!

5PM EST?

yes

Thanks! Any idea when Need-Based Aid decisions go out? I know Merit-Aid comes out along with our decisions.

Anyone else’s portal change to “Your application is complete and no further documents are required by the Admissions Office at this time.”

I can see nothing else now…
