WPI Early Action Round 1 2012

did they explain why you hadnt received anything yet?

She said the merit committee meets every two weeks and he had missed the last meeting. So he will prob be reviewed in the next meeting.

Oh, good, then there is still hope!

Did anybody get a Foisie Scholarship or the Pre-Medical Scholars scholarship?

Yes, D received the Pre Med Scholarship.

Also - for those students in an NCSSSMST High School program, I just found out that the NCSSSMST Scholarship evaluation process is not complete, even for EA-1. It is expected to complete by the end of January.

Merit letter finally arrived today! 10,000/year, total 40,000- presidential scholarship.

If he makes National Merit Finalist this should increase to at least 20,000/year. Fingers crossed!!

PA-C- congratulations. Good luck with the NMF!

PA-C, ditto what gsmomma said.

PA-C-Congratulations!

Thank you so much! WPI prospective parents are by far the nicest bunch of people! :)

Congrats to you and your S. I saw on the other thread that many of the NMS that did not advance to Finalist were notified with letter postmarked 1/9 so if you didn’t hear from them, it’s good news. Is WPI your S top choice if the NMF comes through?

Actually, I am a parent of a current WPI sophomore. My D loves the school. Feel free to ask me anything.

I do have a question, gsmomma. My D is not the sorority-joining type, and doesn’t drink. Is she going to find herself socially isolated on campus if she attends? (She’s social, just not in the typical college-student sort of way.)

Rizado - I never thought that my D would ever join a sorority, but the ones at WPI are not at all like the typical ones that are depicted in the media. She has made some wonderful and supportive women, which is good in a school with only 31% women. 30% of the females do join, but that means 70% do not. I am not suggesting that she join, but she should keep an open mind.
D1 is also not a partier, and is involved with the chorus and the theater groups, mainly doing behind the scenes stuff. The entire music and theater department is very active, considering WPI is a tech school. There are student concerts or plays almost every weekend.

There is an activity fair during freshman orientation week. I strongly suggest that she attend to find a club or activity that fits her. D is also a member of the Society of Women Enigineers and the professional society for her major.

krug: No real top choice right now. He has some NMF scholarship schools and he has some super reaches. The plan is to wait and see how the decisions/fin aid/merit aid fall and then make a final (probably gut wrenching) decision! We will have to look at the money very hard since merit is pretty much our only money relief- dont qualify for Fin. Aid so far. So right now WPI is frontrunner - plus from what I’ve read on CC it seems to make sense to highly consider the schools that “show the love” to your student!!

The round 2 mail will most likely come out tomorrow per admission office.

Accepted in EA2 round. :D

D accepted, biomed engineering at WPI, got 32000/year scholarship…waiting on U of Roch fin. package and decisions from Columbia, Hopkins, Carniegie Mel, Case West, Penn, Accepted at RIT, U or Roch, Pitt, drexel, Rose Hulman, U buff, Bost U, fingers crossed
