2100 SAT
Ranking and GPA in the scale of 4.0 are not available in my country.
No AP offered at my school, but I have already attended advanced English Chemistry and Math Calculus classes, along with many other regular classes (in first semester).
And some minor awards & achievements.
I think my essays and rec letters are quite strong. My teacher rec letter was from my biology teacher. The one from my counselor is pretty good too.
Also applied for financial aid, but not too much. Anyway, I still need about $10K-$20K to attend WPI.

DS2 accepted!!! He was deferred from EA1. Plans to major in Biology.
Weighted GPA 4.3, SAT 2110, Natl Merit Commended, good EC’s
After deferral he worked on his 2nd term grades, and also wrote a letter to express WPI as his first choice of school, why he thought he was a great fit.
@mushi123 sure thing. 28 act, 11 on writing, 4.1 GPA, 4 AP classes, lots of EC’s, Pres/secretary of two clubs, NHS. I was deferred from WPI, which I thought was my safety, and then just accepted. However, RPI, which is like 2x as hard to get into, accepted me straight off the bat, so I’m rejecting WPI’s admission. I have also been accepted to UMD College Park, all of which I plan to major in Mechanical Engineering.
@mushi123 Thanks! Not sure yet, will be finding out within next few weeks. When WPI deferred me, I lost all hope for all of my colleges. However, when I got into RPI, and then waitlisted at Georgia Tech, I realized the whole college admissions process is a load of bull. You just can’t predict anything. If you didn’t get into WPI, don’t lose hope - trust me on that. They have been very weird this year.
Oh I understand. I got in thankfully. Just waiting for the scholarship and aid info. I need to know about the international student profile here so that meybe i can weigh up my stats and predict how much in scholarships and aid i could receive. Thanks for the info though! congrats!
Accepted at WPI as well. I heard their financial aid is not the best, is that true? Accepted at RPI (horrible aid-was 1st choice), Virginia Tech, Uconn Honors, RIT and Northeastern with full tuition. Still waiting on 2 more.
@JustaEngineer I’m still really upset about my decision, since I prefer WPI to NU. Hope to hear good news from other schools. Btw, congratulations on your college admissions!!
@Klossy Regardless, you should feel extremely proud to be accepted to NU. That was one school which I was seriously considering until I got rejected. Good luck in the future!
WPI seems to have gotten quite a bit more selective than when I applied seven years ago. But there are other options as well. Northeastern and UMD College Park are good schools; I would say stronger than WPI if you want to do CS (though WPI has done a lot of recent faculty hires and the department may have changed a lot since I graduated).
@Klossy NU is excellent and I don’t think you will miss attending WPI. Though I enjoyed my time at WPI greatly. If you still feel you want to attend WPI in two years, you can transfer. And there is FA and scholarships for transfer students. But I think your other options are good and you will find a wonderful home for yourself.
I am an international student and was accepted at WPI. When I logged in to my portal, I saw this sentence in the response to queries about financial aid :" Please note that financial aid is only awarded to first-time freshman applicants and that upperclass students are not eligible to apply for financial aid in future years." Can anyone tell me what this means? Does it mean that I wont be receiving FA in my sophomore years and beyond?
