WPI v RPI

I got into both schools and am receiving about $80,000 total from both and I'm not sure where to go. They seem like very similar schools with RPI maybe having a small edge in academics. Does anyone have any experiences at either school?

I'm looking at computer engineering but absolutely nothing is set in stone.

RPI is stronger at engineering.

I do not know much about WPI, but my brother attends RPI. RPI is known for good job placements. It has very strong academics, with the main complaints being hard-to-understand foreign teachers/grad students and very difficult classes. There are lots of real-world type projects. Frats and frat parties are the main social attraction. Many who join frats are not the stereotypical frat boy. Troy, NY is a pretty run-down city, but my brother has taken many trips during his 3.5 years (Montreal, Vermont, NYC, and others).

In my opinion, WPI has a more attractive campus, if that is a consideration. Also, WPI is also very good in engineering. I know my father's business used to recruit from WPI for engineers.

I think RPI is a little stronger. I have another question about these schools though. Is there a reason why only 25% of the student pop are female?

RPI is stronger.

It's all relative. I tend to favor WPI because of the strength of its Humanities program, which is said to be very good. It gives the science majors a worthwhile break, not to say that the required Humanities at WPI are not rigorous. I also belive the 'major project' at WPI is a good idea. And you can complete you major project at various WPI facilities around the world, not just on campus.

Yes, the female population is low at WPI (and at most engineering/technology schools) but Worcester has a collection of co-ed colleges nearby. And women at Assumption College and Worcester State College can register for classes at WPI.
