WRECKED!! UCD or UCI CANT DECIDE

I’m glad you asked! :P

To start off, you can find 33 Sports Clubs [here. Most of these require no background in the sport to get involved, and you can even compete in events. I’m currently in Fencing Club and trying to join the Waterski and Wakeboard Club. There are also a fair amount of IM sports each quarter which are a bit less competitive, and you can form a team with your friends. You can also go watch football, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, or any other sporting event.

We have Outdoor”>Home | Campus Recreation]Outdoor Adventures](http://campusrecreation.ucdavis.edu/cms/internal.aspx?uid=0d133d13-b48e-495d-94cd-e689d833b025) which has a bunch of neat options. I’m hoping to do whitewater rafting with some friends before the quarter ends.

There’s the ARC, with recreational rock climbing, basketball/volleyball quarts, fitness classes, PE classes (for credit!), weight lifting.

There are some really great clubs and organizations you can join which tend to have fun club related as well as recreational events. Some that come to mind are Band-Uh, Greeks, Ski/Snowboard Club, just to name a few (there are literally hundreds of clubs.) There are clubs specific to majors, pre-professional programs, physical activities, dance clubs/teams, religious affiliations, just about anything. There’s some club that hosts fun urban games each quarter such as humans vs. zombies (played my first quarter. Pretty fun!)

There’s everything associated with ASUCD[/URL”>http://asucd.ucdavis.edu/]ASUCD. You can run for Senate (or other positions, such as president.) You can help plan/organize events such as picnic day or the whole earth festival. You can join AggieTV, The California Aggie, KDVS, or many of the other organizations run by ASUCD.

In terms of things to do in Davis, there’s a paintball field, skydiving (incredible, try it,) hanging out at the Arboretum (frisbee, picnic, bonfire, whatever), eating downtown, shopping downtown, art galleries, farmer’s markets, random shows (dance, comedy, theater, etc.), rock climbing at the rocknasium, backpacking, movies, and of course parties. These are just some things I came up with on the top of my head. You can always go to Sacramento and go to Old Town, one of the four malls, Arco Arena, water parks, etc. Or you can go to Roseville for the Galleria or the water park there. San Francisco is only about an hour and a half away if that’s your thing. Tahoe is pretty close as well.

If you want to enhance your learning experience, you can take classes through the craft center or experimental college, where you can learn anything from DJing to salsa dancing to indoor gardening.

Well, now that I got waitlisted to UCI, there’s not much difficulty deciding which university that I’m going to SIR. Haha. The only school’s I’ve been accepted to are UCD, UCR, UCSB but I declined SIR to UCSB and UCR already. Guess I’ll turn it in now. hahaha

UCD and UCI are basically tied academically. Right now Davis might be higher on the rankings, but UCD, UCSB and UCI trade places every few years.

I’ll make it easy for you
Do you like Asians? If so go to UCI.
Do you like Whites? If so, go to Davis.

If anyone says UCD has a better reputation, all I have to say is this… where do you live? In general people have a bias towards the unis closer to them. UCB has better academics than UCLA, but I had never even heard of it until I was 20.

@xelink It’s not so much demographics. I look past that. And besides, ALL UCs have asians! (surprisingly enough Asian-Americans accoutn for only around 2% of US population)

If this will help in anyway - I am originally from the OC but I graduated from UC Davis a few years ago. I initially chose UCD over UCI (after high school) - and to this day, I’m GLAD I chose UCD! I can say this because I had the opportunity to take a couple of summer sessions and a fall quarter at UCI (via inter-campus visitor program), and I did not like it at all. It was nice to be closer to home and all, but the atmosphere was not as lively as UCD. UC Irvine was just sunny, beautiful, and quite dull. I didn’t like the classrooms and the libraries there either - felt like I was sitting in IKEA. On the contrary, UCD is more lively and upbeat - a great college atmosphere. I felt like I was actually IN college. Friendlier people. The campus, the library, the academics - simply classic. This is just my opinion and how I feel retrospectively. You really have to attend UC Davis to understand just how amazing the campus is. Otherwise, you will probably dwell on a shallow impression of how it’s “in the middle of nowhere, smells like cows, etc.” UCD does not just have a strong agriculture department - it is overall well-rounded in the sciences (perhaps a little more competitive than UCI). I graduated with a B.A. in Economics, and a double minor in History and Political Science - and I am now taking my post-bacc science pre-reqs there for med school (I couldn’t decide between pursuing law or medicine earlier). In these four departments alone, I’ve experienced a mixture of excellent, unique, demanding, and engaging teaching styles from a variety of professors. This is seen widely throughout the UC system as well - but UCD is nothing short of any other campus systemwide. All in all, if you choose to become an Aggie - you will not regret it! :P

UCD made the top 25 school list on nice collegs, based on student’s satisfaction. I think it is the only UC that made the list.

I guess from all the people here favors more for UC Davis lol, then you should go to UC Davis without a doubt (since your wait listed at UCI, don’t waste time on that, submit SIR to Davis) I’m going to UC Irvine today and see if its “good” enough for me, if not maybe change to Davis…maybe…

If you want to see Kobe Bryant, go to UCI. He always practices at the Rec Center.

My cousin who’s currently at Georgetown Law told me to go to Davis, as did his girlfriend who worked as a transfer counselor at my CC. I submitted my SIR to Davis a few days ago and I’m still pretty hesitant, because it’s dificult leaving your comfort zone. Irvine was my second choice but they just took so long to get back to me and I seriously doubted getting in. I did get in with a low GPA but I’ve fallen in love with Davis now and my whole family is telling me that I made the right choice so of course that’s influencing me even more. I still kind of doubt going to Davis 'cause I’ve never lived away but hopefully things work out. Ah.

I believe irvine and Davis both have a high Asian population. Im pretty sure every UC has a very high population ever since affirmative action be and illegal in California

Both UC Davis and UC Irvine are majority Asian. The only schools that are majority White are UCSC and UCSB.

I said this many times, each university has its own personality and characteristics, and as students you find the one that fits you best. That said, my pick is still Irvine if was between Irvine and Davis. In my opinion, location and social aspects matter.

I’m attending UCD, so hopefully I will be seeing you there in september!!

I’m going to Davis. I live near Irvine and it seems like a commuter school to me, not a real experience. We call it “University of Chinese Immigrants” because there are so many asians there. Sorry if you are asian.
