<p>Hello, I just got deferred from Gtown with pretty dang good scores, grades, and extracurriculars, an I'm nervous that the essay was the thing that brought me down. Would some people be willing to read my essay and give me advice so that I can either eliminate it as the factor that hurt me or revise it for future colleges?

<p>I haven’t read it, but if - and it’s unlikely that an adcom would defer you because of an essay - the problem was your essay, it would probably because you made yourself sound pretentious, since, c’mon, you wrestled with a freakin’ python. That said, you can send it to me if you want.</p>
<p>I’ll pm it to you, and perhaps it does sound a bit pretentious, but the whole wrestling with a purging is an extended metaphor for my struggle with a moral issue.</p>
