Hi,
My S will be applying and auditioning for BFA programs next year. So far his list is:
Boston U, CMU, Emerson, Juilliard, Pace, USC, Rutgers and UNCSA. All for BFA Acting.
However, after my husband had a look at how much each schools out-of-state tuition was, he about had a melt down. So, I did my research and looked into the Acting programs at Wright State, Cincinnati-CCM, and Indiana University, all schools we can get in-state-tuition at (We live in Dayton, OH).
Does anyone have opinions/insight to those Theatre programs? My husband and I would appreciate it -- a lot. LOL

CCM has an excellent theater and is highly competitive. IU has an excellent musical theater program but I am not familar with just their theater program, would you be eligible for in-state tuition to IU? I know several talented students who are currently attending Wright State and love their program. All would be possible additions. I am curious about the IU in-state tuition since I
am from Ohio and D is looking at IU.

Where do you live in OH? Because we’re in Dayton, we are eligible for in-state in Indiana as well as Ohio… There is some agreement between Indiana-Ohio-Kentucky that if you live somewhere near the border, in-state in all three is possible… I think the only area in Ohio that has instate in all three is the Cincinnati area. So, my family could not receive it in KY but IN, yes.
Thanks for you feedback. I think my S is open to adding all three of those schools. For our sake!!

I’m from Dayton, as well, and I don’t think the reciprocity agreement extends to IU-Bloomington. You can get in state tuition at IU-East, but I’ve been looking at Bloomington and I don’t think in state is available for us there. However, if he’s a good student IU has some great merit aid opportunities.

Wright State has a great theatre program, though, and CCM’s music programs is great so I’d assume their theatre program is, as well.

I’m from Georgia, so I have no idea where you are compared to Otterbein in Westerville, OH. My daughter has added it to her list. She is technical, but I’ve read really good things about the program as a whole. Is that an option?

Otterbein is private, so the in-state tuition situation is irrelevant, but they have good financial aid, and their merit and talent awards do “stack,” so it is definitely worth investigating. Wonderful program.
