Wright State Talk 2015

So jealous of you @mom4bwayboy! Adam Pascal & JRB!!! We don’t get to go often & have to miss so much! D in Midsummer in D-lab this weekend & can’t get there… :’(

S is also in Midsummer’s @MTmom2017! We went down for Almost, Maine last weekend, so two weekends in a row wasn’t happening. Who is your D playing? Mine is Snug the Joiner.

Fun! She’s Hermia & I really hate to miss it, but 8 hours is too far and our 10th grader has a show this weekend too.

S is Puck! I’m planning to leave a convention in Columbus to see it. I’ll be sure to give the “mom report”.

Now I’m REALLY jealous!!! Have fun and yes for Mom report!

Take some photos… Share on FB!

Yeah, S auditions this weekend for WKU. Then vocal for UK sometime soon. Got the TBNT from CCM already :frowning:

CCM is historically very quick with the ‘no’… At least they don’t leave you hanging. Last round of WSU auditions are this weekend. Hopefully they’ll make their decisions soon. Good luck to your S with his remaining auditions! I must say, it is really nice to be on the other side of it this year!

Yep, it’s nice that CCM dashes your hopes so quickly. No chance to plan the honeymoon. Here’s hoping for better news from WSU and the others - quickly. WSU is on spring break starting next weekend, maybe you’ll hear before then. . .

WKU auditions went well I think. He actually liked the campus. Quote " it was college-y " WSU still #1 choice but I think WKU became a solid #3

@mom4bwayboy – any word on when decisions will be released? It’s so hard to wait!

It’s a new format this year (eliminating rolling admissions), so it’s hard to guess. WSU goes on Spring Break beginning Friday. So… educated guess… soon? I believe all initial offers from Wright were out fairly quickly after the final audition last year. The FB page popped up for accepted students around the first or second week of March.

I’m guessing the same as @MTmom2015. My S says he has not heard anything - but then he’s not much for “having his ear to the ground”. He did hear of one girl getting accepted at her audition - don’t know which date, but My guess would be at the last audition on 2/21. And there’s a rumor of one boy being accepted.

Hey, @mom4bwayboy … How was Midsummer?

Midsummer was SO much fun. The kids said that performance was the first time they had made it through the entire script and seemed quite surprised they made it all the way through. It was a little rough around the edges, but also very fresh (some modern twists) and incredibly funny. There were several inside jokes in the blocking that went over my head until S explained them to me afterward, but it had the students in the audience practically rolling in the aisles. It was obvious that everyone involved was enjoying themselves. I laughed a lot. The Mechanicals were a hoot and the audience in stitches. The star-crossed/fair-crossed lovers were also funny - many of the inside jokes involved their scenes (one was a reference to a way the scene had been blocked out in their acting class). I think the spirit of this show was how Shakespeare meant it to be. All that was missing was spilled beer and peanut shells o the floor.

I apologize for the lack of shared pics. I left my iPad in my hotel room and used S’s iPod to take pictures. Apparently, every single one of them came out horribly underexposed (I suspected they might, but didn’t know how to compensate - technically challenged) or blurred beyond recognition. Sorry.

Just returned from sitting on stage with Jason Robert Brown - about 15’ away. He talked and sang and played the most wonderful piano arrangements of old favorites and brand new songs - with a cold no less. @MTmom15’s S was in the row behind us. My S said he felt like he was experiencing MT history in the flesh. A truly amazing opportunity! The last time JRB was at WSU was in 2001 when they premiered the college production of Parade. The kids are in for a real treat tomorrow when he talks with them about writing for musical theater.

Thanks for the update @mom4bwayboy! D told me when they were in rehearsals that the mechanicals were hysterical! She was also there last night (started on stage, where she couldn’t see but then got moved). The theatre company he talked about that gave a lot of money to Bridges is the one D grew up in. She is looking forward to hearing him today. I’m hoping for a picture because I have one of her with him when she was 13 (we got to pick him up from the airport & take him to dinner!) and would love to have another one. I am absolutely blown away by the Musical Theatre Initiative. Visiting artists/masterclasses get better every year!

Update… My son just got home for spring break and I asked him if he’d heard anything about notifications. He said all they know is ‘March’. If that’s the case, I wouldn’t expect anything this week.

Exactly the same thing my D told me last night - “March.”

Thanks for the updates @mom4bwayboy @MTMom2015 and @MTMom 2017! It really does help to know even just a bit if information.

Great info in this discussion! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences! My D auditioned for Wright State in early Feb, and we’re waiting with baited breath. The waiting is grueling!
