Wright State Talk 2016

Some terrific visitors coming to WSU this year via the Musical Theater Initiative:

My daughter is signed up for the master class Friday and auditions Saturday! We have tickets for the show Friday night! Getting excited!!!

Same plan for us, @theatremom16! Where are you from? BAL to your D. Is this her first audition?

@owensfolks We are from Columbus… not too far away! Yes!! This is her first audition!! She is looking forward to getting started!!

Saw NNN last night. What an awesome job they did! I was in NNN in HS and consider it a “slow”, “old fashioned” show. Not WSU’s version. They really played up the laughs, kept a fast pace and the tap dancing was terrific. And once again, Musical Director Scot Woolley and his orchestra were more than worth the price of admission. The costumes and design elements were top-notch. A special treat: Two grand pianos were set up on either side of the stage and the pianists played beautiful duets. During the second intermission (a necessary short scene change) the pianists played some period music that had been arranged for 1970s Broadway revival. Joe Deer contacted the arranger - whom he had worked with in the Broadway production - and he was gracious enough to share with WSU’s production. Delightful.

Can’t wait to see it tomorrow night, @mom4bwayboy ! D is a tap dancer, so she is gonna love it.

Enjoy the show. Good luck to your D tomorrow!

Hope all goes well for everyone auditioning today. BAL!

No, No Nanette was AMAZING. We were blown away by the TALENT, choreography, set design-everything. Some parts of D’s audition went great; and other parts a little less than great-but she really enjoyed the master class, the CAC, the faculty, the current students, and her fellow auditionees. No doubt-a first class program.

Ditto to what @owensfolks said! We were very impressed with everything! We got to see more of Dayton, too…very nice area!

For those interested, WSU is now offering a 15 credit certificate in Arts Management. http://webapp2.wright.edu/web1/newsroom/2016/10/25/wright-state-offering-undergraduate-certificate-in-arts-management/

Checking in - if anyone has WSU questions, there are several of us who periodically check this thread.

For those of you attending masterclass and auditioning at WSU this weekend - all BAL!

If you are looking for something to fill your evenings while you’re there, my S is mounting a fully student-produced performance of La Chuisa’s Hello Again. It’s a small cast of MT/Acting freshmen through seniors and a unique opportunity to see this rarely mounted show in the intimate, student-run Director’s Lab (D-Lab) theater. One caveat - if you attend the Friday night performance at 11 PM (yes, one hour before midnight - probably too late for those auditioning the next day), the audience will consists of “theater major” college students in all their best “late-night” glory. The more “family-friendly” performance will be Saturday at 5PM. The show will be rough around the edges (and perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea) but it’s a great way to see what the BFA students can accomplish under their initiative - in their “free” time.

All the best to those auditioning - and their parents.

Yesterday, WSU students got to participate in this workshop with Marin Mazzie, Jason Daniieley and Joe Tahlken. It was made possible by the Musical Theatre Initiative which brings BW artists - performers and design/technical - to the campus for lectures, workshopsand masterclasses. The trio also performed a gala concert at Dayton’s Human Race Theatre last night.

Does anyone know how (snail mail or email) WSU will alert the auditionees? They told the auditionees they would hear the end of February. We know they are on Spring Break this week so my D is concerned that we will have to wait another week.

My D said they’re sending snail mail “next week.” And yes, Spring Break is this week - sorry! Waiting is the worst!!!

UGH! I can’t take it. Lol! Thank you.

Wish I could add more. @MTmom2017 is much more “in the know” regarding these things than I am. S is generally oblivious to these highly important matters.

I’m so impressed with Wright State’s program. I have my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed for my D!
