Wright State Talk 2016

@mom4bwayboy Do you happen to know which school in Washington?

University of Washington.

Yesterday she got waitlisted! Holy Cow!!!

Woo Hoo @momtojoss! Looking at just the few folks on CC with multiple acceptances, I’m betting some waitlist spots open up. Fingers crossed. The stately woman is still awaiting her entrance.

@momtojoss Yay, yay, yay!!!

@momtojoss Awesome!!! Just have to hang in there!

Thanks everyone! We were in shock. J was overjoyed! But puts a whole new level of stress on things! I was as excited as she was tho!

Heard back that we are wait listed!!!
It was sent March 10 but we never got it so glad I asked… Now the big question … How many come off the wait list? And when?

I know, right? Congrats!

I swear I read somewhere about how many have come off the wait list in previous years for Wright State but I can’t find it now. Does anyone know? I’m looking for a glimmer of hope!

@showgirlmom Congrats!

My D was accepted and given a 4/15 deadline to accept. So if she’s like others, those waitlisted might not hear anything until then?? Depends on other waitlist and notifications from other schools too. That’s what boat we are in. Waiting from one school to solidify the decision. Just wanted to let you know what I’m hearing.

Thanks for that date, good to know at least that much!

I believe this year may be different than years past. When my S, @MTmom2017’s D and @MTmom2015’s S (Current MT sophomore) were HS seniors, WSU did rolling acceptances and sent out more acceptances than they expected to actually enroll. Then EVERY (almost?) student in this year’s sophomore class enrolled and they ended up with a huge freshman class - had to hire additional faculty and it disrupted the “normal” cycle of classes. So, with this year’s freshman class they instituted holding off notification until all auditions were complete. It’s hard to know how they’re playing things this year. They may be “tweaking” last year’s process.

Also, keep in mind that while programs may be encouraging earlier decision deadlines, students legally have until May 1 to decide. So there could still be movement on WLs until well into May - or even later. If any accepted student would like more time past 4/15 to make make up her/his mind, it would be polite to let programs know they’re still considering options and the extra time is appreciated.

Good luck and fingers crossed for all of you!

@chenggang ck your letter again. Schools are ethically not permitted to require a commitment prior to May 1, per the National Assoc for College Admission Counseling. In their policies it states that they shall:

. . . permit 1st-year candidates for fall admission to choose among o ers of admission and institutionally-a liated nancial aid and scholarships until May 1, and state this deadline explicitly in their o ers of admission, and not establish policies nor engage in practices whose e ect is to manipulate commitments prior to May 1;

Another parent quoted a letter from OU doing similar practice. FYI there is a complaint form on the NACAC website.

Agree that is the standard, but, those in waiting lists would certainly appreciate those with multiple offers declining schools as soon as possible so openings can occur and wait listers can be made offers too

@showgirlmom I think one thing on which we can all agree is that each of us would like to put this process to bed as soon as humanly possible. I invite you to consider posts 345 and 348 on the thread “MT Acceptances for 2021 - by College.” I doubt anybody would sit on an offer just to be selfish. It will be the third week in April before we can complete visits to remaining 4 choices. All answers and financial offers still not in. If we can rule out any along the way, we certainly will. The offers are only good, however, if D actually attends enough school this semester to graduate!

This may seem like a weird question, but I just “remembered” something regarding WSU acceptances: Today, I had to send a copy of S’s last semester report card to our car insurance company for student discount and “noticed” that his major is listed as “acting”. Which reminded me - for those of you whose child got acceptances/WL for “Acting Major” - did it also say “with emphasis in MT” (or some such)? One of the “unique” things about WSU MT BFA major is that it’s really a BFA in Acting with MT emphasis. IMHO, it’s also a strength. Just curious if most of your kids were accepted/WL for true Acting major? Or is it WSU’s version of MT?

My daughter’s says BFA Musical Theatre Program in the Department of Theatre, Dance, and Motion Pictures

My D was accepted BFA Acting.
