A few current and past WSU parents continue to post on this school thread. Feel free to ask questions.
Wright State’s MT/Acting/Dance applications for 2018-19 are active. You can apply for admission to the university directly and simultaneously submit the separate application for Theater Department application/scholarship consideration - this includes scheduling audition dates. Start your engines. . .
@sean121 Yes - at least in the past. My S is now a senior. When he applied it was old fashioned snail mail directly to the Theater Department. That application gets your audition date and also puts you in consideration for department scholarships. If you have questions, don’t be afraid to contact Victoria Oleen. She’s very helpful.
When you go on the Wright State App and they ask for Major choice they don’t have MT listed but they have acting, should we put acting? also does anyone know what the masterclasses before auditions are like?
The major is Acting with a Musical Theatre emphasis. As for the Masterclasses, there are several classes that are offered - dance classes, working song cuts/monologues, voice classes, movement classes - it varies depending on when it is. It’s a great way to meet the faculty and see the facilities. My D just graduated, but there are other moms on CC who have current students. We are all happy to answer any questions!
@marysike - just adding to @MTmom2017’s post. We live close to WSU and S (current MT senior) was lucky enough to attend the masterclass day as both a HS junior and a senior (not sure they’d allow that any more). He really enjoyed those days and that experience was instrumental in changing his mind from thinking of WSU as the local “backup” option (HA! what we didn’t know then) to top of his list. He came away with a good sense of “fit” after spending the day with faculty, current students and auditionees.
@mom4bwayboy D will be there November 3 for masterclass; November 4 audition. After following your journey, I’m looking forward to checking out the campus and the program!
My D received her acceptance to the MT program today in the mail! We were definitely surprised it came so early since our understanding was notices went out starting March 1. Anyone else receive notification? Good luck to all!
We have a friend (male) who also just found out he’s wait listed. A wait list is good! If WSU is your top school, let them know! Another friend is a current freshman & she was waitlisted last year. People definitely come off the WL.
Surprised there is a waitlist already given all info we had was they wouldn’t even begin with acceptances until March 1. Given they still have a few on campus auditions, I assume there are still some open spots.
Yay, D received an acceptance via snail mail (postmarked 1/22) yesterday! We were on the road at another audition; …her dad did the ol’ hold the envelope up to a lightbulb trick, and THEN told her there was an envelope-and asked if she wanted him to read it We are THRILLED. And it was fun to get great news earlier than expected. Congrats, @schmoe1234 & @127mocha . A waitlist is indeed a good thing.
A little confused about WSU, does the acceptance letter say either BFA MT or BFA Acting, my D received a letter today stating acceptance into the BFA Acting program, she applied to BFA MT, but would be thrilled for either at WSU.
Thanks!
@danils does it say with BFA in Acting with a Musical Theatre Emphasis (which is what their MT BFA is called), or just Acting? Did she mark that she wanted to be considered for both MT and Acting on her audition form? If you’re still confused, Vicki Oleen knows all - you should contact her. And congratulations on the acceptance!
