Title says it all. Any tips for stopping writer's block during those last days/weeks?

I’ve been fighting writer’s block for the last few months on this essay. My advice is to start with some sort of outline and list out particular things you want to mention. Imagine you’re talking to a stranger and write out all the things you want to convey to the person. Once you have everything planned out and start writing, force yourself to write something within a time limit - maybe 20 minutes. Even if you think it’s total crap. The hardest part is starting, so once you have something down, you can go back and improve it. The rest is all up to your motivation and it can be really difficult to make yourself write, but I hope these little steps help you out a little. (For me personally, I always make myself a cup of tea or coffee when I’m writing, it makes me feel ready to get on with work :P) And don’t forget to cut distractions!

I suggest free form writing and just let the idea’s flow. A lot of time, as said so well above, it is just getting started that is the block. So if you plan to write a page of text that you will edit later it doesn’t matter if the start is bad. You can just edit it later. The idea is to start to connect ideas and find somewhere to go through the writing, developing thoughts. Sometimes I even just find out all I need to do is to lop of that preamble paragraph and jump right into the topic in the 2nd para.

I do like the idea of a 20 minute timed session. Good one.

Just start writing. Honestly, when I can’t think of anything to write about for my essays (and I mean anything), I start writing about whatever I’m thinking of at that moment. Write about what you did at school or a movie you watched recently or just describe what you had for lunch or anything really. I think it’ll make you more comfortable with the idea of writing something from your point of view.

thanks for the tips sharms27 , BrownParent , and Enthouse ! I just started writing as you all said and after the first paragraphs it started to get a lot easier (:
