Writer's Block, HELP!!!!

Hi Everyone, I'm an international student and I'm stuck on an essay prompt (i.e. Write about a problem, theory, work of art, experiment, or idea that has had a profound influence on your thought.) I've no idea what to write. I tried searching but couldn't find anything. Please help me out by suggesting how do i go about approaching it.
Thanks

Look at some example essays and most importantly, be you. Don’t try to imitate your writing based on how someone else wrote. Think about one of those things that’s been involved with your life and how it has affected your thought.

What kind of problems have you had in life that has changed the way you think?

What type of things/experiments/projects have you done that has changed the way you view things?

Those are some guiding questions, I’m sure you will do well. Good luck!

Thanks SmoothAI, The essay is about a problem, theory, work of art, experiment etc, that had a profound influence on my thought. I’m stumped. For e.g. ‘Mona Lisa’ is a work of art, how can ‘Mona Lisa’ have a profound influence on someone’s thought. I am just trying to know how someone approaches such a prompt. I couldn’t find sample essays on the it.
Did someone face the same topic??

If you can’t think of a subject to write about for that prompt, it probably isn’t the right prompt for you to answer. Perhaps one of the other prompts will spark an idea instead.

Thanks JCCs Mom, the college to which I’m applying is making me write 7 essays (all compulsory). My application would solely be judged on my essays! They aren’t even asking for my SAT scores.

The key is to think about your opinion on any art, political, philosophical or religious ideas. Government shutdown, Aristotle, educational system, greek mythology, one of the many presidents, Georgia O’Keefe, wars, separation of church and state, evolution vs religion… just to stimulate some ideas.

Think about what you have a strong opinion on, perhaps something you or your family have personal experience with. It can also be an idea you are strongly against. That can be a powerful way to demonstrate your personality to admissions. Be cautious not to sound hostile or unreasonable in any way. Stay mature and consistent. Good luck!

Thanks a lot sherry 18, you gave me a lot to think about. Meanwhile i had some ideas of my own. Please tell me what you think about them.

Theory of Demand & Supply
I can write about the practicality of the theory and give recent examples how the govt. and privateers used it to collect more taxes and make more profits respectively, and how it ‘influenced’ me by making me think about the corrective measures that can be taken to improve the economy and save consumers from being exploited.

Time travelling
It’s not a new concept but recently, my friend suggested that even if it was possible, we would only be travelling into the future and not into the past. I really liked the thought process and developed the theory. I can write about it in the essay citing Stephen hawking’s ‘a brief history of time’ and Einstein’s ‘theory of relativity’ to successfully defend my argument.

the problem with this specific prompt is that the thought provoking things aren’t necessarily a theory, problem, work of art, experiment or idea. I’ve never met a person who is what he/she is because he/she read some interesting theory or did some interesting experiment in high school. You all agree ??

Neither one of those says much about YOUR thought, really. I would like to correct myself in saying, it’s not simply about your opinion on something but how that opinion has shaped the way you think.

So if the idea of time travel has had a REAL impact on you and your thought process, then go for it. But from what you’ve told me, it’s not really changed or made you in any way.

How about some kind of art? Music, theatre, etc. that inspires you. Consider comparing those to your major, ESPECIALLY if you’re NOT an art major, because it’s like telling the admissions that you can relate your passion to every aspect of life.

Think hard about what inspires you. Big time, not just something you’ve given 5 minutes of thought to… but what’s brought something new to your mindset.
