Writers block

I have MAJOR writer's block for the UC essays. I read Bauld's On Writing The College Application Essay and that only scratched off everything that I was about to write in my essay... Now I don't know what to do. I have about 10 days but I would like to make that 7 days since I don't want to submit it exactly on the 30th. Someone please help me...please...

brainstorm! list all the possible things you could write about. What makes you, you?

Freewriting always helps me, too. Sometimes stream of consciousness can turn out to be pretty eloquent.

surely there can be something you’re passionate about?

Close your eyes and imagine your room. Choose out an object that has meaning to you. Now, why did you choose that? I assume you furnish or at least decorate your own room… so many things should be meaningful to you. There’s a novel on each little trinket… just waiting to be written.

I’m the artsy type so my room’s a bit … eccentric in its decorations. There are model rockets[from a club. Something I could write an essay on  ], there’s a typewriter in the corner [from a found-objects art project…], a large wine glass I bought from a garage sale… it reminds me of my favorite still life paintings and it serves as a reminder for me to stay simple and clear in my art.

Are there extra-curricular activities you’ve participated in that were life-changing? or at least, are a testament to what kind of a person you are?

Is there a person you will never forget?

How about a simple meal that was memorable to you?

A time when you smiled from the heart?
