WRITERS please help!

Hi guys, this is my first time on here so sorry if I make a mistake.
I've been looking into ways to show my passion for writing.. I know about the Scholastic competition, (any additional information about that would be appreciated) which I plan on entering. The only other writing activity I know about is Nanowrimo, but I don't even know whether I should bother with that or not.
If you had any idea on ANYTHING useful for admissions involving writing, maybe ideas to start a club, or competitions to enter, anything, I'd appreciate it so much! thanks!

If you love to write, continue to write. And go to writer’s conferences, workshops, join a local writer’s organization, etc.

Submit stories and articles to your school’s literary magazine (if there’s not one, start one) and school newspaper.

Start a writer’s group in which you critique each other’s work and invite in local writers to speak to you and to do workshops.

I agree with Northstarmom’s suggestions.

You may want to look into summer workshops. Some are vetted, and are well known. These include the Iowa Young Writers Studio (at the University of Iowa), and the Young Writers Workshop (at the University of Virginia).

If you’re looking for ways to demonstrate your passion for writing, the above posters give very good advice. If you’re looking for more writing contests to enter, a google search for high school writing competitions would serve you well (although be careful, because some of these are open to only juniors or seniors)

enter contests and send your work to magazines like Teen Ink. Just watch out for scans!

If any one else knows other good places to pblish or compete with writing, let me know. I am curious as well.

Scholastic Art and Writing is a well known contest for high schoolers.

i’ve google searched competitions but i’m afraid of falling into a scam, or wasting my time with a competition that isn’t worth any time. know of any good ones?

is getting published into teen ink something colleges would be impressed about, or care for? i’ve considered it before.

^No, Teen Ink is not particularly impressive.

Scholastics is easily the best competition out there. Other than that, try national literary magazines (a great one for high schoolers is Polyphony HS).
