Writing 140-level of difficulty and grades

I heard that Writing 140 can be very difficult with tough grading. However, I don't know if that is true for all Writing 140 classes or only certain ones. Is it better to take certain category VI classes because the connecting Writing 140 is easier or are all Writing 140 classes hard?

The writing program designs the course to be tough, often needlessly I felt like. I got the impression that the instructor (technically a graduate student, so much for "TA's don't teach classes") found ways to give the entire class C's and D's on the first paper to scare them. It certainly serves as a wake-up call, but you pretty much have to adjust to the Writing Program style and approach to research to please the instructor.

I didn't find the class to be too much work, though there is a bit of nit-picking required to ensure the papers meet certain requirements. The "portfolio" assignment at the end of the term requires you to revise and resubmit two earlier essays for a final round of grading. Do not put this off until the last night or two, as this is where most students procrastinated and made their finals week that much more stressful.

I don't know if some companion classes make the Writ140 section easier or harder, but I would recommend selecting a field with which you have some comfort or interest. Writing a compelling 8 page essay is easier when are are already knowledgeable about the topic.
