My son (freshman) wants to transfer from his small LAC because he does not like the 7 day a week party culture of the school. How do you say this in a “Why do you want to transfer to this college?” without sounding like a whiner? Should you focus on what the transfer college “has” that you “want”? He likes the academics of the college where he is, just not the “culture.”
It would make sense to outline the perceived advantages of transferring instead of dwelling on a bad experience. Elaborate on the fact that the academics at [transfer school] are suitable and that the overall environment is more amiable. I would avoid any statement that is overly negative.
