Any tips or guidelines for making a good one? Also, would anyone like to critique one of mine?

I don’t read essays, but here are some tips:
- Reference things specific to the college that appeal to you. Programs, facilities, academic majors, specific course offerings, etc.
- If you visited, refer to it and something you encountered on it – did you chat with a professor, sit in on a class, discuss a major you are interested in with a tour guide?
- Are there ECs you would like to try or continue that the college offers?
- Is there anything specific to your background that fits in with something about the college?

Those are all good areas to explore. In general, I think colleges are NOT looking for creativity in these Why X essays. They are looking for a sincere interest on the part of the student and evidence that you really understand the college and yourself well enough to explain the reasons the college is a fit.
