Writing a Letter to Admissions?

I was deferred from Fordham and was wondering if writing a heartfelt letter would increase my chances of acceptance. My grades this year have all been in the B+ to A range and I really want to get in. Any suggestions on things to say if I was to write a letter?

say fordham is your top choice school.

Emphasize what you BRING to the school....what about you is special and what positive impact you can bring to the classroom and the student body. That does not mean to be narcissistic and list all your qualities, as that is a turnoff. But what passion do you bring and such. Don't feed them baloney as they can smell that a mile away. Be honest. Everyone who applies wants to get in. Nobody wants rejection. They want people who truly want to be there, who will work hard and become a credit to the institution and become someone in the Fordham community that has a positive impact on the lives of others, whether that is community service or some other attribute/skill/interest you have.

Best of luck to you.

Southernbbq, do you work for Fordham? Why do you post using so many different names? Southernbbq, nocousin, nonelitist, friedokra, etc.

that's funny - I thought southernbbq sounded a lot like nocousin (who did the big farewell thing on the Fordham forum a couple of weeks ago).

tubamomNY & collegekidsmom - i truly laughed out loud when i saw your posts!
i was thinking the same thing too... incognito much?

I am NOT employed by Fordham University and its not a game of incognito. Nice try.

you know it's funny... cuz I was thinking the same thing! This so called "Fordham's Ambassador of Goodwill" is a joke

funny...i was thinking the sameeee as wellll

I have to second, third, fourth and fifth everyone else's thoughts. Nocousin leaves and these "new" people pop up?

If only I hadn't dumped my Harriet the Spy gear in the fourth grade.

well maybe it was bc i was on to them spying on here...

Does anyone find it strange that nocousin always says that he's not employed by Fordham no one's even asked if he works for Fordham? It's almost as if he's making us think he is a Fordham employee. Now why would he do that?

Nocousin always says (s)he's not employed by Fordham, but (s)he never directly addressed the question of whether he goes by multiple aliases.

Perhaps he's being ... jesuitical?
Pun intended.

In response to the attack on nocousin, is it so hard to believe that there is somebody in the world that is just trying to do a good deed? Nocousin is a partisan of Fordham, he has kids that go there and just loves what the school has to offer. It doesn't matter whether he works as an admissions officer or not. He is simply trying to inform students about all that Fordham has to offer and why it's an excellent choice. After several years of service, he decided that he wanted someone else to take over the forum. He knew that he couldn't go on doing this forever, and believed that another parent of Fordham should take over. The attack on him is both unethical and uncalled for. I guess that's what you get when you try to make a difference in the world.

Knight, agree completely..thanks

Knight, I don't see an attack, just questions. He didn't leave for someone else to take over, he just changed his name and kept posting. What do you think of the ethics of someone who has changed their name at least 5 times? Maybe I'd make more of a difference in the world if I too could post my opinions many times as many different people. Good deed or agenda?

Southernbbq, nocousin, nonelitist, Seafoodlover, Swansong, friedokra, etc.
Spend a few minutes - same opinions, same words, different names.

I agree w/ collegekidsmom... And let me just add one more thing. nocousin seemed like a nice person to me at first, informing me and others about Fordham and the great advantages of attending it. But whenever anyone offered anything a tad negative about the school, nocousin took it personally. He should take it as constructive criticism rather than an attack on the university. Frankly what I don't understand is why he talks like he's always right and no one else has anything else to offer. And why is his excuse always that he doesn't work for Fordham?? Any by the way... just cuz a person chooses to attend some university over Fordham, doesn't mean you should treat that person like *****

And knight03, no one's attacking nocousin. Some of us have only offered constructive criticism and it had been getting ridiculous after he started making multiple usernames.

I think turning this into some kind of controversy is just hilarious. Most of us merely commented on how the posts by the various screen names had an obvious similarity to them. By the way, I never did think nocousin or any of the other names (aliases?) were Fordham employees, just some very enthusiastic parents. Too funny!!!

At some point, there needs to be a realization that Fordham /= happy sunshine and flowers. People are going to have different opinions.

There's way too much sensitivity here.
