Writing About taboo (sort of) subjects

Okay. So for college essays, most people write about passions they have or things that have happened in their lives, etc. Although i get good grades (3.8 average, 2300 SAT, etc.) and have other extracurriculars (sports, internships, volunteering), what i really have fun doing is playing video games. I am an extremely hardcore WoW player. I rank pretty high in a relatively large (not the best) guild, and often played for hours a day. I really enjoyed playing it and i feel that all of the raids i lead (which use voice chat, for those who dont know), I felt like i built a lot of leadership and teamwork skills. I also developed a lot of analytical skills (see "theorycrafting") Even though games are usually looked down upon by some people, if i am really passionate about it and it really had some positive influences on my life (and no detriment to my academics/ECs, as colleges can see from the common app), do u think i can pull of writing about them?

PS for those of you wondering, yes, i slept very very little during my WoW days xP

I would say its doable.

With an essay like this, its probably best to go for humor.

Talk about how you interacted with people, how a sense of teamwork developed, how it forced you to prioritize and deal with the stresses of handling a number of things at once.

Just make sure that you tell it as a story and never make it seem like you care more about doing well in WoW than you would in succeeding at a university.

Think of writing about video games as similar to writing about drugs in a college essay:
You can do it, but if you do it wrong, all your telling the college is that your addicted to something that you feel is more important than your education (even if this isn’t the case).
